Can I pay for antibiotics online?

Are there any real on line doctors who can prescribe anti biotics?

I don't need them yet. I have a cracked tooth, I have seen my dentist who has referred me to a specialist for root canal treatment. She has said that the likelihood of my dying tooth becoming infected between now and the appointment is high and this could result in an abscess.

She has said that if this happens during working hours she will happily prescribe me anti-biotics. But if it happens over a weekend then I am to go to A&E.

Our A&E are on high alert so they wouldn't be happy to see me i'm sure.

Is there anywhere I can safely pay for some amoxicillin to take only if needed? I don't want some dodgy online thing.

I'm terrified of an abscess, my husband had one and it was awful.

I also have a business to keep afloat and a couple of days out could ruin me right now as we are in our busiest time of the year.

I needed some antibiotic cream that I've been prescribed before by my GP and successfully ordered it from The Independent Pharmacy online. Was delivered within 24 hours although I did pay for next day delivery and ordered in the morning! Dont remember if they do oral antibiotics.

If it is out of hours you should be able to get an out of hours gp rather than a&e.

I don't think anti biotics are usually prescribed on a may need basis due to the risk of misuse and rise in resistance.

Can your dentist not write you a prescription which you only get filled if necessary?

Thats what my dentist did in a similar situation to yours.

No, she won't.

I did ask her.

Thanks, I have had a look on there and there are no anti-biotic tablets.

Thanks though

I have bought antibiotics online a few times, its not cheap but I was left with no other option.

Arsebucket · 23/08/2021 13:32

Yes, I got some for a wisdom tooth infection when i couldn’t get a dentist appointment and GP said they couldn’t help me.

Cannot remember who with but i found it by googling .

Arsebucket · 23/08/2021 13:34

Just gone through my inbox and I can’t find it, sorry. I had to answer some questions and then was emailed back by a dr. All in all cost £45. It was an online pharmacy that’s all I can remember.

Oliveandsage · 23/08/2021 13:38

How about babylon? you can use the app on your phone to speak to a doctor, you do need to pay but may be an option?

You won't be given them just in case. You've been told to go to A and E ,I'd just go there.

fucketyfuckwit · 23/08/2021 13:48

Thanks, i'm wary of being caught out by fake tablets so wanted a tried and tested one.

I'll take a look.

I've looked at Push Doctor before but didn't end up using them.

eyeoresancerre · 23/08/2021 13:52

You could get an appointment with an online doctor. I used Push Doctors a couple of times and they faxed through my prescription to my local Chemist within a couple of hours. Was pricey though about £50 all in including consultation via internet. Worth it for me though as they have appointments from 7am until late evening.

Hoppinggreen · 23/08/2021 13:53

Our local oriental supermarket sells them (illegally)

POSITIVETHOUGHTSS · 23/08/2021 13:53

Doctors aren't indemnified to manage dental problems.
I would issue pain relief but not antibiotics (I'm a GP).
There have been cases were Gps have given antibiotics for presumed abscess and missed an oral cancer and then been sued.
111 should arrange out of hours dentist to call you but I appreciate this doesn't happen as it should.

Arsebucket · 23/08/2021 13:53

Online drs usually have a disclaimer saying they don’t deal with any dental issues.

Arsebucket · 23/08/2021 13:55

Online clinic as shared above! Just found my email, that’s who I used.

They gave me 5 days of antibiotics which cleared my wisdom tooth infection and tided me over until I saw the dentist a month later.

Passing doctor. This has made me so angry (not your fault) I had to respond.
I would be frankly furious if you pitched up in my ED with this problem (as directed by your dentist who probably has a lovely cushy number working 9-4 week days only and has no idea what hours the rest of us are pulling and in what circumstances).
We are on our knees. We have never been this busy. We can't get staff and doctors/nurses are leaving in droves.
If your dentist thinks this is a serious possibility then they should prescribe the antibiotics you need on a just in case basis.
What do you achieve by sitting in ED for ?6-10 hours. Other than wasting resource, your time, adding to the massive waits and having hours of unnecessary pain. I'd change dentists if they are that inconsiderate.

Thank you, for that and all that you do.

I agree, I am trying to do all I can to avoid going to A&E as I know what pressure you/they are in.

You have a dentist that is saying you have a high risk of infection and of developing an abscess but they’re not giving you antibiotics?

You need a better dentist instead of trying to track down antibiotics yourself.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 23/08/2021 14:54

No, that's not what was said.

As I understand it they aren't allowed to prescribe antibiotics just in case anymore.
