Teenage girl school shirts?

New school year, new school shirts - dilemma.
My 13yo daughter is tall and slim but well endowed and all the new, bigger size school shirts I bought her are too big at the collar but gaping open at the chest. These are M&S 'regular fit' girls shirts, age 15-16. I see they do a plus range but the description doesn't give me any idea whether that would solve this issue or is for an overall larger frame. My poor daughter is really unhappy and uncomfortable, going to school even on warm days with a jumper on because of the gaping blouses. I feel polo shirts would be much better because of the stretch / no buttons but the uniform code won't allow that. Does anyone else have the same issue and where can I try for good alternatives?

I have this issue on shirts and it’s to do with the button placements which tend to sit above and below the bust rather than the middle where you need it. You can solve the problem with a small press stud sewn inside at the point where it gapes.

You could try small adult sizes, which are more likely to be cut for boobs.

My dd is exactly the same, I bought her ladies blouses instead, more expensive but definitely worth it.

Can anyone link to to a ladies blouse that’s suitable for school as sale issue?

I used to sew mine shut and just put them over my head.

I buy my daughter boys shirts from John Lewis as they are typically cut a bit looser.

Thanks for the responses so far. I guess poppers and sewing them shut may be options I should explore.

On the idea of ladies shirts, I'd be interested to know where you found that kind of shirt @DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult. I was thinking workwear retailers - google threw this up though I fear it's still not roomy enough in the chest for my daughter activeweargroup.com/uneek-ladies-poplin-half-sleeve-shirt-uc712-p1947

That's the one I got, I got a size up from dds usual size and it's absolutely fine.

I've used a safety pin between those two buttons since I was 14! Even women's shirts aren't often tailored for boobs.

FireandBrimstone · 23/08/2021 13:28

Thanks @DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult, off to order.

I feel a bit daft not thinking about safety pins and studs. That'll teach me for bunking off the sewing classes three decades ago.... Grin

You can carefully get the safety pin in between the two layers of fabric for the buttons, then never undo them, just pull the shirt over her head. They really need to start making clothes that actually work for women!

My 14yo DD is a similar shape (36D and slim) and I bought her M&S Plus. I didn't tell her though as she'd be sensitive about it, so cut the offending labels out and hung them up in her wardrobe! They fit beautifully.

Divebar2021 · 23/08/2021 13:33

M&S used to produce “no peep” shirts with extra buttons internally on the placket ( so you couldn’t see them) but they stopped them for some reason.

ODFOx · 23/08/2021 13:37

My DD had Banner school shirts. Cut well, didn't gape, lots of darts to maintain a smaller waist and a slightly thicker material that wasn't semi-transparent and didn't need much ironing.

Try proper school outfitters for them.
