Nailsea to Bristol traffic

My ds and his gf are moving to this area soon and I wondered if anyone knew what the journey time is from Nailsea to Bristol during the morning rush hour? His gf thinks it's a 15 min drive, but I have a feeling it may be longer.

Nailsea is a part of Bristol on the outskirts, where is he travelling to - Bristol City Centre

Kezzie200 · 22/08/2021 17:55

As a guess it's about 10 miles. So I can't see it being any less than half an hour at fastest, depending on what part of Bristol he's going to.

Ahh, not sure where she will be working, just she told me it was a 15 min drive there from her house.

Nailsea is definitely not a part of Bristol!!!!!

It really isn’t....

In normal traffic, it would take about 15 mins to the outskirts of Bristol, but during morning traffic, the A370 is often very slow on the Long Ashton bypass and can take twice that on a bad day.

MayorGoodwaysChicken · 23/08/2021 09:46

I would probably allow closer to an hour for that journey depending on exact destination and time of day. It will categorically not be 15 minutes. Has your son’s girlfriend ever been to Nailsea/Bristol? Is she pushing for the move and trying to downplay the commute? It’s honestly laughable to say that’s a 15 minute drive.

Ah just seen this-so it may not actually be central Bristol? Why the need to question what she has said if you don’t actually know where she will be working? Sorry, I’m a bit confused.

Her driving time may be increased when the CAZ gets given the go ahead. I

longtompot · 23/08/2021 13:34

@MayorGoodwaysChicken no she isn't pushing for the move. This is her first post grad job, and the start date has been brought forward so getting things organised has been a bit of a rush. I don't know the area she will be working, which I know would help with my question, but having done the drive from the east into Bristol taking our ed to uni several years ago, I wondered if the road coming in from the south was as bad.
It wasn't a need to question her at all, but she will be going by what the drive time is on google maps, and I would hate for her to be late for her first day, and be stressing about it stuck in traffic.

What's the CAZ @oldstudentmum ?

Clean air zone basically cuts off south Bristol if you don’t have the right engine, however the way the plan has been made it cuts in to part of the portway. Which will force traffic to divert to other roads. All main hospitals are within area including the main shopping area. You can check on the government website to see if you don’t have to pay , otherwise it will be £10 per day .

It also depends if the bridge is being swung open at the Cumberland Basin. That's dependent upon the tides and what wants to enter/exit the Floating Harbour. It can easily add another half hour to the journey.
I used to commute from North Bristol to Nailsea on a daily basis and it easily took me 40 minutes even if I went by the Clifton suspension bridge.

HuaShan · 23/08/2021 17:36

How funny, I grew up in Nailsea and even all those years ago it was at least a 40 min drive at rush hour. And it's definitely NOT Bristol!

MrsMoastyToasty · 23/08/2021 17:38

It's closer to Clevedon and Weston Super Mare than Bristol.

Bloatstoat · 23/08/2021 18:32

I work in South Bristol, I usually allow half and hour door to door leaving about 7.30, it gets busier later on. Where abouts is she working, if she has to go into the centre or across the other side of the city it will be much longer, it used to take me nearly an hour to travel south to north Bristol. Train may be an option if she's near the centre?

onlyhereforthefood · 23/08/2021 20:00

Typically 40-45 minutes at peak time, sometimes more , rarely less

MrsMoastyToasty · 24/08/2021 08:29

It's also worth noting that once you come off the A370 it's country lanes with high hedges down to Wraxall village, so getting stuck behind a tractor can affect your journey time.
It can also take 49 minutes by train to Temple Meads Station.
