Does anyone have a decathlon folding ebike?

I'm dead keen to get one. It will mean I can cycle around for my meetings rather than drive all the time and it will fit in the boot of my car easy.

The decathlon one is much cheaper than others and I am a bit worried it is heavy.

Any reviews?

Can’t advise about the decathlon but when I wanted a cheap ebike for commuting I was worried about weights of bikes and also the risk of an ebike being stolen. I’ve just put a swytch kit on a normal hybrid and it’s awesome. Lighter than an ebike , does have a smaller range but for me for my commute it’s perfect.

Oh but if you need one which fits in the car boot it wouldn’t work. Can you go to decathlon and try? Overall they have a good reputation for bikes.

I've had a few cheap exercise bikes including the Decathlon Domyos one and they have no longevity. They did the actual job perfectly until something inevitably broke a few months in.

It's annoying because it's my back-up exercise rather than my main one (ie if I can't run due to injury or shit weather), so I don't want to have to shell out, but anything under £200 just doesn't last. I haven't found one that does last yet!

Thanks for this. Do you mean excercise bike like a static garage thing? This isn't what I mean

Not the Decathlon one, but we bought MiRiders earlier this year .. They have been great when campervanning ( which is what why we wanted folding ones) but I am finding that I am using it more and more everywhere..
Im not sure how the price compares , but the Mirider seem well built and are certainly much cheaper than a lot we looked at ( electric Bromptons are over £3k😯!)

See if your employer offers the bike to work scheme, that way you could get a better bike for the price of the decathlon one.

Thanks for responses, I will look for cycle to work but thank they don't have it.

What are the pit falls of a folder more generally? Is it harder work?

A folder shouldn’t be harder work just by virtue of it being a folder. They tend to have smaller wheels though so I guess you don’t go as far per pedal stroke? Saying that one of my bikes is a non electric folder with 20” wheels and I find that fine for zipping about on.

more moving parts= more chance on the gears being knocked or the chain jumping out.

the cycling experience itself is very similar to normal full size bikes.

fwiw we have a mix of decathlon and other bikes. dec are very good quality compared to similar priced brand bikes. but they are not popular with our repair shop as they use some non-standard parts. tyres&brakes are ok though but you need to keep that in mind should you need repairs.

I've had the decathlon folding ebike for a couple of years now. I love how it rides, I changed the seat to a more comfortable one but no other problems with it. It is heavy though and quite wide when folded. If you can, have a good look at it in store.

xksismybestletter · 22/08/2021 20:25

thanks very much for all of this. I have just had a look at my actual everyday (read leisure) bike and it is not actually dissimilar in size and weight. It is a junior pendleton from halfords that I got last year in lockdown, and I do LOVE it, but i am not up for carting it around everywhere.

It is 15kg and has 24inch wheels.

Any other brands I should look at? DH just muttered something about me spending 2.5k on a bike, so I feel that has opened the door to me spending a little more... :)

There’s some U.K. ebike Facebook groups which might be worth asking on….I’ve seen posts from people who have bought cheap bikes on Amazon/eBay…some seem to be well thought of.
