If you have a September- December birthday

Did you like having a birthday then as a child and did you like being one of the oldest in the year? Do you like your birthday now?

I'm just curious really! I know the benefits of being born in these months and my ds is an autumn baby.

I was a summerborn as was dh and most of my friends, but I always liked being one of the younger ones, birthday being far from Christmas and in generally better weather.

Thinking about all this and ds birthday comes up in autumn!

Mine is early November. Liked being one of the oldest as a child. I like my birthday when it is - around Halloween and bonfire night- good for parties. I also like that it's my birthday then the run up to Christmas. It sometimes falls in half term as well which is a bonus (teacher)

It's funny that when you're young it's great to be the first to get older whereas now I'm the first to eg turn 40 and my friends are still in their 30s for a bit! Grin

I have 1 DC with a September birthday and 2 summer ones.

November here and I hate it . I'd love a summer birthday where I could be warm and there would be actual daylight . Would love not being in the run up to Christmas too .

DinaofCloud9 · 21/08/2021 22:46

No I'm November and I hate it. I was always jealous of my sisters who had summer birthdays with parties in the garden.

A Scottish October one here so at the younger end of the year

I couldn’t drink in the union when I started uni which was very disappointing!

DD is a January which is even “worse”; she’s the youngest in her class

user1745 · 21/08/2021 22:49

I don't remember age within the school year being much a big deal when I was at school. I do remember being a bit jealous that my birthday was "over" so early in the school year while others had months to look forward to theirs (that doesn't make sense now that I write it, but it made sense at the time?)

MrsDThomas · 21/08/2021 22:54

I was once the oldest in primary school having a Sept birthday.

Its no big deal

user1471554720 · 21/08/2021 22:58

I am October. I was the youngest at school as I started when I was 4 in the October. I don't mind it, as it is far enough away from Christmas. When I was dating, I would often go for a weekend away for my birthday. It broke up the time between Sep and Christmas with a celebration.

Ideally I would love a May or June birthday as weather is nice and we are in summer clothes. My dcs were born in May and June so it is nice to have celebrations then.

December birthday which is ok but I envied my friends with Spring/Summer birthdays who could go to the beach, have picnics etc. Also as a kid I often got joint birthday/Christmas presents & I hated that.

Papergirl1968 · 21/08/2021 23:03

Thanks, Restingbitchface01 - I didn’t know that.

September here. I hated being the oldest at school as there was always an expectation that you should be brighter because you could be a year older. Teachers are more sympathetic to summer borns who struggle. Also wasn’t great turning 18 and not being able to go clubbing and to pubs because no one else was. But now, I love having a September birthday, to me it’s the start of the most exciting season with Halloween, bonfire night and Christmas all to look forward to. It’s making me excited just thinking about it

cheapskatemum · 21/08/2021 23:11

December birthday here & not a fan. You get your 2 big annual celebrations: birthday & Christmas in one month & then 11 years of nothing. There were always children older than me in the school year - not that this bothered me either way. It's always hard to book venues etc for birthday parties, because they're booked for Christmas dos. Also, the background music is always a Christmas playlist. Moan over!

cheapskatemum · 21/08/2021 23:12

11 months of nothing, not years!

weegiemum · 21/08/2021 23:32

I've got a mid December birthday and have never had a problem with it. My parents made a point of never putting up the Christmas tree until my birthday was past and they were quite fierce about no joint presents.

These days we usually go out to celebrate family birthdays and mid December is crap, it's all works nights out and Christmas menus. So I pause the celebrations and we go out as a family in the middle of January. Cheers everyone up and then it's not too long until dd1 and ds birthdays in February.

I was the youngest in my class for the first couple of years (Scotland) and was only 17 when I went off to uni, but I wasn't fazed by any of that. Though I did defer my feb born kids so they didn't leave school until they were 18.

Early October and love. Not too cold and wet yet. Loved the seasonal stuff like fallen leaves

FuckingFucksicles · 22/08/2021 01:53

Bonfire night... I LIVE for summer - would have preferred July! God sake Mum!

ImAddictedToMyPhone · 22/08/2021 03:19

I'm a Christmas baby and I hated it growing up but now I'm not that bothered.
If I could've chosen my children's birthday, I'd have chosen Summer. They're winter babies too.

WaterIsBest · 22/08/2021 03:23

End of the year and it sucks so close to Christmas

WaterIsBest · 22/08/2021 03:25

End of year…

Most friends all have Christmas events booked up so going out for it is always difficult to suit everyone, or they havent got any money because of Christmas

My mum always made it special and always completely separated it from Christmas which was nice

grandmashotdoodlebugs · 22/08/2021 08:56

Mid December close to Christmas. It's shit! So much so my sister deliberately stopped trying to conceive in March.

My DC are May and June. My June DC is super bright and high achieving so I sometimes disagree with the impact on their school years but then again they get extra 'points' on standardised tests - however this just pushes them higher to the maximum scores available. So I don't think much of such tests.

Other DC in May is on bank holiday weekend every year.
Summer much better time for a birthday.

UmamiMammy · 22/08/2021 09:21

Mine is 4th September. Very often the first day back in school. I was always the oldest, my best friend was 30thAugust and was the youngest.
Arranging parties was a bit tricky due to the school holidays but I have always liked my birthday.

Same. Here's £5.00 for your birthday and Christmas...... wow thanks!
