Brain fog really annoying me! Has anyone experienced this before?

My mind keeps going blank! Argh. I feel oddly detached from any task I'm doing and feel a bit 'weird'. I can't really explain it

But with the thinking thing, for example, last night I had to order a new fridge freezer. It took forever to concentrate on it, despite found absolutely zero else and NOT procrastinating.

I kept going blank. I knew what I had to do, but I couldn't get my brain to connect and cooperate with my hands if that makes sense

Even writing this thread I feel an awful sense of 'detachment' Sad

When I'm typing it feels like someone else's hands. I feel a bit spacey.

It's absolutely awful! Has anyone had this before and when did it stop? It's been going on over 2 weeks and seems to be getting worse

Have you had your thyroid checked? Under active thyroid can cause mental slowness, and I experienced it as noticing how slowly I was thinking, as if I was a bit detached from the process.

@SBAM Thanks so much for your reply

I haven't no, but I don't think they'll do it anytime soon due to apparent shortages with test tubes? I could be wrong but I think it's nationwide

I am pregnant which I assume is what's causing it. Pregnancy seems to be absolutely vile to me. It's not just constant nausea all the way through. I get intense migraines, headaches pretty much constantly, breathless, mental exhaustion. Lack of motivation. The list is long

It was the same all the way through with my son, even in labour. Then vanished after he was born.

But I don't remember brain fog being a part of it

All the bloody time. Worse since I was ill last year. I used to have a brilliant memory. These days if I don't make a note immediately it has gone. I get the wrong words a lot too. Dh is used to it now, as are the kids Sad.

Are you anaemic? Speak to your GP about your symptoms.

Badabingbadabum · 21/08/2021 20:11

For me, that is a sure sign a migraine is developing. I also forget words or mix up words.

Probably just pregnancy though! Its one of those things you think is made up until it happens!

Please check the symptoms online and speak to your GP. Under active thyroid can have effects on the baby if you’re pregnant so if you do think it could be that then press them for a test.

Ask your midwife about taking baby aspirin. It might hold off the migraines, and tbh what you're describing sounds a bit like Antiphospholipid Syndrome - which aspirin is one of the treatments for.

Get your iron levels checked. The breathlessness, headaches, fatigue are symptoms of iron deficiency in pregnancy. And make sure you're drinking plenty of fluids.

Thanks so much all for the comments - I was slightly anaemia at my booking appointments but I've been taking iron supplements prescribed and feel less physically exhausted. Before I just wanted to sleep

Now I just feel like my Brain can't function properly. I get something called Haemoplegic migraines that mimic the symptoms of a stroke (get these outside of pregnancy). However, pregnancy makes them more frequent. It's awful
