Who knew you had to pay to drive in Birmingham?????

Went to Birmingham recently for a weekend mini break. Received a penalty notice in the post today as apparently Birmingham is a clean air zone and you’re supposed to know this and pay £8 per day to drive in the city. I’m guessing another fine is in the post for the Sunday when we drove out of Birmingham. We didn’t see this advertised anywhere so no idea how we were supposed to know - two fines of £120 I know about the london congestion charge but do any other cities have this charge to drive so we don’t get caught out again?

@KingsHeathen I drove my 11 year old car into Birmingham city centre last week and haven't received anything in the post so I would assume that it is exempt as stated.

I knew it was coming but not that it had started, but I have not been to Birmingham for 3 or 4 years.

Don’t you get a week’s grace to pay the charge online? After that they invite you to pay the fine.

Yes that does make sense @Coogee . TBF since seeing that my car was meant to be exempt I haven't read any of the info about paying . I was responding to someone who thought that the exemption info relating to older cars was incorrect, just saying i had driven in with no problems but yes, I understand I could still receive something in time .
