Scab on dh ear, should he see a gp?

He has had it for around six months. The last time I told him to see the gp about it he just picked it off.

I started a dark mark but its crusted over now. He is "sunscreen shy"

yes I definitely would. at the very least you can send them this pic and see what they say and if it's worth going in to see them in person.

Sounds potentially worrying if it scabbed over.

nimbuscloud · 20/08/2021 23:06

Yes. He should see a doctor. It may be nothing sinister but better safe than sorry

Elouera · 20/08/2021 23:08

How old is he? What do you mean by 'sunscreen shy'? He won't put it on himself or won't allow you to put it on him?

Yes he should without a doubt.

irresistibleoverwhelm · 20/08/2021 23:15

Yes, it’s possible it could be skin cancer if it isn’t healing for that long - he should get it checked.

IncessantNameChanger · 20/08/2021 23:18

He is 47. He used to only rarely use sunscreen and a low factor. He only puts it on now if I'm doing the kids and remind him.

He totally brushes off and health concerns.

I told him repeatedly it's not normal but he isnt at all concerned dispite this being a area which repeatedly gets sun exposure.

My gp has changed their online appointments so I think I can raise it online for him, pretending to be him. See if he replies the gp

He should definitely get a referral to dermatology. It may be nothing serious, but probably needs S biopsy to check.
I think generally we tend to neglect tour ears when applying sun cream, yet they are one of three most exposed bits,

Donotgogentle · 20/08/2021 23:31

Definitely yes.

DramaAlpaca · 20/08/2021 23:32

Yes, he must see a GP about that.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 20/08/2021 23:36

That's a classic place for sun cancer on the top of men's ears as they wear their hair short. Definitely get it checked.

IncessantNameChanger · 20/08/2021 23:37

Thanks for the advice. I am presuming it's easier for him to ignore as he cant see it. Just its definitely a area that's overlooked when applying sun cream. He has to be reminded his head isnt as covered by hair as it once was too.

He seem to genuinely think it's fine to sit in blaring sun for decades. He doesnt go red or burn much and it's how he was as a kid too. Factor 5 at best..I dont recall my parents putting sunscreen on me either really. Must of been our generation.

I think I'm.just going to send the picture to the gp myself on Monday

Yes, he needs to get checked out. He's lucky to have you taking this seriously on his behalf. Both my parents had similar. Neither were sun worshippers. Dad's was a basal cell carcinoma on the side of his nose and Mum's (3!) were squamous cell carcinomas on her nose, cheek and upper lip, which helpfully all appeared at different times, meaning numerous hospital trips. All were removed without further problems, but the one on my mum's nose was not a straightforward procedure and required a skin graft.

Snugglybuggly · 21/08/2021 00:15

Definitely

Elouera · 21/08/2021 15:36

I misread and thought it was DS, and a child! At 47, and suddenly appearing 6mths ago, of course he needs this looked at!

scochran · 21/08/2021 16:11

If you send your gp that photo they will see him or even better refer him to dermatologist. It should be on 2 week plan and I would push for that. If you get him to look at the ABCD guidance for moles he should see he needs to be seen.

SirVixofVixHall · 21/08/2021 16:14

My DH had a similar patch in the same place, he was referred to a dermatologist and they removed it. It wasn’t anything sinister, thankfully, but your Dh does need it taken off I imagine.
