Is there any help people with needle phobia to be vaccinated?

A situation which I have no plans at all to get involved in, no good could possibly come of it, but has led to some idle musing.

DS1's 18yo GF doesn't plan to have the vaccination. She is apparently very scared of needles and it's just out of the question for her.

If she were to decide she does need to have it, is there any support to help her?

I did suggest an appointment should just be booked, it's over quickly and DS can go and hold her hand, but apparently that's not allowed.....and as I said, I'm not getting involved Grin

My needle phobic DH has had both his jabs without any problem. He told them when he booked the appointment and again on arrival. He never saw the needle or felt it and it was fine.

They are in phase one trials of the nasal spray version of the vaccine, so it wont be too long before she can do that.

My DD was like that - I called the helpline to see if she could go at the same time as her boyfriend as she'd been putting it off but showed a bit of willingness to go with him - they couldn't book her in but suggested she try and go along to just 'see the set-up'. It turned out they had spare jabs and persuaded her to go for it there and then - she got a private room to lay down in and her boyfriend was allowed in as well so it may be possible. From the sounds of it they were very efficient and persuasive! They were also very helpful on the helpline and said its a very common problem.

The Covid vax must be THE most unobtrusive vaccine ever!

I never noticed the needle going in. Nor did most people with whom I discussed this.

Just look away and think of something pleasant. It'll be over before you even have time to worry

Absolutely, I don't like needles either. I told the chap I was having to be very brave and didn't look and it was all done before I knew it. But it sounds like her fear is on another level to mine.

A needle phobic woman came to the centre where I volunteer. She brought someone with her (absolutely fine at every centre I know, so tell your DS to research that. She doesn't have to go to her nearest) and the vaccinator was brilliant with her. He gave her all the time she needed, and reassured her throughout. We also have a more private area that's screened off, for those who need it. So they can even get to lie down if they need to, and no-one will witness their anxiety other than the vaccinator and anyone they bring with them.
