Does anyone else have a strong reaction to certain words or names?

I'm autistic and I'm not sure if it's because of that but certain names and words make me feel ill or agitated. There were particular names and words that I refused to say as a child and some of them still make me feel sick. Unfortunately a few of them are family names. Does anyone else have this problem?

I don’t OP but I know someone who has a child with autism and has described similar behaviour and she mentioned “trigger words” but I don’t know if that’s an official term.

Not to the extent that they make me feel physically ill but yes I've had strong dislikes to particular names since childhood. It's not a taste thing, it's the sound of the word. Luckily it's abated somewhat as I've got older as my FIL is called one of my least favourite names.

Yes

I have words that make me literally see red. It's like a visceral reaction.

I'm on the spectrum too

Yes definitely. I won’t say what the words are but I think they’re closely related to my trypophobia.

Bobmonkfish · 20/08/2021 23:42

Sort of, yes. Possibly not in the same way but certain words make my blood boil at times.

Synaesthesia

Oh god yes. People using the shortened versions of patricia for example, 'noah' and so, so many words i have to skirt arounnd. Actually i hate 'skirt' in a clothing context as well. Some words have odd, unrelated associations for me as well.

Yes, some words and names make me feel very uncomfortable and I've never known why.

@bottleofbeer

Synaesthesia
That’s what I thought too

Not really any more but there was one word I hated as a child and I actually made all of my family promise to never use it, I actually felt physically sick when I heard it.
