£35 to fill up one hole in tooth. Family friends daughter has 3 holes and they have said she will need to pay for each. Its private. Is this standard? Found it expensive?

Yep it's really cheap Hmm
I haven't been to the dentist since before lockdown, simply cannot afford it,work full time, don't smoke or drink , have the latest phone ect but paying for dental treatment is out of my reach, I know I'll have to go at some point but it's unrealistic for many people, especially for fillings etc

SilverontheTree · 15/01/2022 08:09

Dentistry has been artificially cheap in the U.K. for too long thanks to the NHS.
Dentists are highly trained professional people but if you see a dentist you aren’t only paying them but their nurse and receptionist. Materials, supplies, PPE, chair etc, heat, light, indemnity- all adds up.
So a private dentist needs to be billing around £300 per hour to cover these overheads. That doesn’t mean they earn £300 per hour but a fraction of that.
How long would a filling take? 20-30 minutes at least. Say hello, check medical history, numb and wait for it to work, do the treatment. So a filling would normally cost £100-150.
Where I work we do private kids for half the adult price as a goodwill gesture so expect to pay £50-75 for a child filling.
NHS dentistry won’t be around much longer imo. Look after your teeth and take out insurance.

I paid £225 yesterday for a filing, it did take an hour.

I’m in this situation. I’m actually registered with an nhs dentist but they don’t have time to do any treatment. I keep paying £26 for appts to be told I need extraction/fillings because of decay and to ring back in a few months for an appointment. I’m in agony. Now a different tooth is hurting and there’s no point paying another £26 to be told it’s rotten but they don’t have time to do anything. 🤷‍♀️

am thinking of paying private but I have so many problems I’m worried the bill will be over 1k
