If you just had your baby she'll be having formula or breast milk, right? Formula is fortified I think but you can give an iron supplement if breastfeeding. If she's been diagnosed with an iron deficiency haven't the drs talked to you about supplements etc?

If you go to your local pharmacy they will probably be best placed to advise on what supplements are safe for her age.

Not sure where you are but no doctor would suggest giving a new born baby iron supplements. They would very rarely prescribe them.

Too much iron is very dangerous.

nocoolnamesleft · 20/08/2021 21:45

It would be unusual to give a newborn baby iron supplements. About the only time we do is with significantly preterm babies who have anaemia. And then it is prescribed by the doctor. Is it you who has been diagnosed with iron deficiency, or your baby? Are you breast feeding or bottle? How old is the baby?

PeonyTime · 20/08/2021 21:52

How old is your Baby? It sounds like they are very young, at which point they should be having milk, and vit D for breastfed babies.
Nothing else, unless they need occasional pain relief.

You are possibly deficient in iron because baby has taken all they need, leaving you short.

Supplements for yourself if needed, and feed baby milk.

Hi Ellie, Sad to hear that your small baby is facing such issue, For adults we have many food options available, but for babies, mother milk is best diet. Also You should eat iron rich food for 2 weeks, breastfeed your baby and check improvements. If this will not work then you have only option left is to give iron supplement, that i did not want to recommend for babies, but to avoid the further illness, you should take.

Yes breastfeeding, Age 6 Months, not in stage of anemia, but i am worried, Did not want to take supplements but did not saw any improvement from last month.

Babies only need vitamins once they are drinking less than 500mls formula or breast milk which won't be the case at 6mths. Either she is drinking formula which has iron in it, or breast milk which you can increase the iron in your diet. If the Dr is saying she needs a supplement then that would only be if they have checked her blood abs she is anaemic, or she was a low birth weight in which case she should have been prescribed by the Dr after she was born

JumpLeadsForTwo · 20/08/2021 23:36

What do you mean no improvement from last month?

ellieschneider · 20/08/2021 23:36

Yaa, Taking this from last month, but its not improving health, this is the main concern.

JumpLeadsForTwo · 20/08/2021 23:37

But what do you mean by "health"?

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 20/08/2021 23:40

How are you measuring 'health'?
Is it you who is iron deficient? If so, you should be taking iron supplements and eating an iron rich diet

inigomontoyahwillcox · 20/08/2021 23:50

When you say not in stage of anaemic - you mean her iron levels are within normal range?
