Anyone ever laid a garden path? How hard was it?

Fla5 level ground. Thinking of using reclaimed bricks. How hard was it?

It’s not technically hard, just watch YouTube videos and follow all the steps. You will probably have to dig out quite a lot of soil and replace with some type 1 and then a layer of sand. What are you using for edging and filling the gaps between the bricks.

I’m afraid It’s not as simple as laying down bricks in a pretty patterns. There’s a reason that hard landscaping is expensive .

Yes, we've just had a load of hard lanscaping put in which has bankrupted us...hence my thinking I'll have a go at doing this short path myself.

It's on soil that's flat, no drainage issues. I watched Monty doing a brick path and it looked relatively easy in terms of skill - just time consuming and being careful about levels. I'd do a flexible one on sand I think.

I built my first path in the last year by myself, and it turned out really well. Heavy work but Youtube was my friend. I had a bed of gravel/ roadbase, compacted it with a hired compactor, river sand on top, then the pavers. Then I haunched the pavers with concrete, and filled the gaps with paver lock flexible sand. We have clay soil so this was the right approach. There are different approaches for different soil.

We are on clay too. I'll you tube paths for clay soil .

It is hard work and getting the surface perfectly even is something I found difficult. Even if you start off with a level surface it's not exactly plain sailing. I put cobbles down about eight years ago and I'm not sure I'd have the strength to do this again. I used a mix of sand and cement for the cobbles and edged it with Victorian style tiles with a stiffer mix. It's perfectly serviceable in a 'cottage style' sort of way - which is diplomatic for saying that it definitely looks like a professional didn't do it.

We did a large area in the last house, and visiting more recently it still looks good (decades).
In this house the previous people used reclaimed bricks, it looked very cute but the bricks aren’t weathering as well, laid in the ground they are breaking in the frost etc.
