Migraine relief?

Hi, does anyone here suffer with migraines? I’ve had to take 2 days off work this month, 1 day last month.. pretty much every month there is a day I need to take off unless my migraines fall on a weekend. Sad
They are completely debilitating and make me sick, dizzy and sometimes blind in one eye. I’ve been given sumitriptan tablets but they don’t seem to help.
I’ve been referred to a neurologist, but could be a long wait.
I’ve always suffered with cluster headaches, but not full on migraines until the start of 2020.
Thanks for any tips or advice!
(Meds that have worked for you? Migraine relief? How to prevent them?)

There's all sorts of medication on the market, but what works for me is ice cold coke and taking sinus medication.

And long term, low carbing. Bizarre but true

I suffer with these too, they are truly horrible! During an attack I take Solpadeine Max soluble tablets combined with 300ml ibuprofen for the pain. I also take Sturgeon (travel sickness tablets) which help relieve the sickness and dizziness. I have also found a hot bath with Lavender, Geranium and Peppermint essential oils helps, as does a hot lavender wheat bag across the neck and and cold gel eye mask can work wonders too! Totally sympathise op, hope you feel better soon Thanks

Thank you. They truly are awful! My boss isn’t very sympathetic either. When I go back she says ‘oh Livia is back after her head ache!’ And then claps. Hmm she’s also suggested I just come in wearing sunglasses. I physically cannot move from the bed, and my DH has also had to start or finish work later to do the school run if it’s my day off work and usually it would be me doing that. I feel love ruined many family weekends as well. Sad

*like I have ruined many weekends. (Need to check before posting!)

Also, it’s ruining my sleep pattern. Hence why I am awake at 3am and need to be up in a few hours for work! So even on the days I don’t have a migraine, it can make me feel tired for days and I just can’t sleep!

Hi OP, your migraines sound especially nasty and your boss even nastier Sad

Like a PP I find sinus meds help. My migraines aren't anywhere near as bad as yours but I find one or two rounds (obvs at least 4 hours apart) of 2 paracetamol, 2 ibuprofen & 1 decongestant with pseudoephedrine usually work for me.

Thank you- second suggestion for sinus meds so I will try that! Something like Sudafed? And yes… I wouldn’t wish a migraine on anyone.. but my boss? Maybe Grin

I find aspirin the best in terms of a painkiller with full sugar coke and a dextrose tablet - my GP said at the first signs of an attack try and raise my sugar level. Have you asked your GP about other triptans? Sumatriptan did nothing for me and seemed to make it worse but Zolmitriptan works much better. They have lots of drugs at their disposal whilst you wait for the referral and one might give you some relief. The other thing is your triggers and also signs - even before I get the aura apparently I don’t look right and if I can take a cocktail of drugs with the full sugar coke in time I can stop them happening.
Exercise really helps keep mine under control as mine are definitely related to hormones and I’ve been very slack over the past couple of months so need to force myself back out.

Me too :(

I have just read an article about keto/low carb and migrane relief and believe it or not I went keto just before may and it was probably the best period of the year where I didn’t have them (I have about 1/2 per week normally). Maybe it might be worth trying?

I’ve just gone on slow release propranolol to prevent them fingers crossed

On the back of the sinus med comment, I have been taking sinutab as it has helped me loads in the past but just a warning if you overuse them it can make them worse/make you intolerant to them. I’m trying to use more ibuprofen which at the minute is tending to have a similar effect
