Have you lost any adult teeth?

If so- has it caused you any problems, and did you decide to replace it?
I have unfortunately, due to clenching at night. I know that some people live quite happily with missing teeth, and I'm curious to know how common it is!

Oy ones I had pulled out during to lack of space.
Dp has lost a few back teeth and it doesn't seem to cause him any problems.

I lost a front one. 3 failed root canals & it had to be removed. I have a bridge, I’m very conscious of it but not a lot I can do as I could never afford an implant.

I now also grind my teeth (I wear a mouth guard at night) and this causes pain in the tooth next to the one I lost. It worries me. I don’t want to lose another tooth.

@Wimowehwimowehwimowehwimoweh the clenching seems to cause a domino effect. Do you wear a good night guard to protect your remaining teeth?

Oh I forgot DH has lost 3 teeth. He’s on serious meds & it seems to have affected his teeth.
His loss of teeth don’t show when he talks or anything & he’s never felt the need to replace them.

Grinding sorry, not clenching! I'm a clencher,

The dentist fits my mouth guards. I chew through them in around 4 months.
I badly need a new one but they have only been seeing emergency appointments for so long that they now have a huge backlog.
I’ve been making do with these until I can get a new one from the dentist

Clenching/grinding -it’s all pressure

Wishihadanalgorithm · 18/08/2021 22:46

Yes due to terrible clenching/grinding (it’s all Bruxism I think).

A front tooth broke off when I was a teenager and since then I have lost several after various crowns and bridges. Only diagnosed with this condition after a lot of damage had been done.

I wear a guard, take amitriptyline and have tried various other treatments.

It’s crap bit what else can I do? I spoke to a specialist at the hospital and she said not to have implants as I would break them anyway!

opalescent · 18/08/2021 22:51

@Wishihadanalgorithm I had a similar conversation with an implant surgeon 😥. He said I'd need orthodontic treatment before he'd consider me for implants...

I don't have the spare 10k to cover all of this. And I'd still be clenching anyway

Does the amitryptiline work for you?

OP posts:
notthemum · 18/08/2021 22:59

At least 5 and a bit which can at times make some thinggs difficult to eat and also make my tongue sore if i catch it on the tooth.
I have a complete phobia about the dentist, no savings, bad health and could never afford to get them fixed anyway. But it is what it is.

opalescent · 18/08/2021 23:01

@notthemum I'm sorry, I sympathise. I wish there was some bloody decent NHS dentistry available ☹️

Two (one on each side) at the back & no not replaced them

Wishihadanalgorithm · 21/08/2021 21:14

The amitriptyline does work a bit. Sometimes when the clenching has been terrible and I am in agony I will double or triple up on my tablets. They definitely help then! They are only 10mg each and have been told I can take 3 at a time if I need to.

I would definitely give the drug a go and see how it affects you.
