Have I got enough money for mini break?

fredread · 17/08/2021 17:02

Going on a cheesy mini break to Blackpool for 3 days /2 nights.
Hotel paid for which includes a full English breakfast and we are driving down £30 each for petrol.
I have £200 spending money.
Do you think that will be enough?
The only thing we want to do is the zoo.
Lunch will be fish and chips and a meal on the night.
Few cocktails
Do you think il be struggling ?

Is it you and another adult or are you taking kids? Wondering how much the zoo tickets will be

ISpyCobraKai · 17/08/2021 17:05

Yes probably.
I'd honestly forget the zoo, and eating out and cocktails.
Buy food to eat in, at least for the first day, do whatever is free, and the see how you are the second day.

fringeneedsatrim · 17/08/2021 17:08

Is £200 just for you or more people? It won't go far ... drop the fish and just have chips butty at lunch - there's £6 saved which is almost a cocktail!

No just me and my friend.
The zoo is £19

It's £200 for me.
Friend has own spending money.
I just don't have a clue how much things at Blackpool cost.

Zoo is about £23.
Of course it’s enough money depend on how you spend it!!
Choose meals within your budget and you’ll be fine! With accommodation and a big breakfast paid for already I would have thought just under £100 per day is more than doable.

If they don’t do any of these things what exactly are they going to have spent £80 she’s got on?
fredread · 17/08/2021 17:13

The only other thing I will be spending money on is candy rocks, the tram and the big wheel on central pier.
Does anyone know of any cheapish places for food
Obviously Wetherspoons /Yates etc but anywhere else that's nice but not £40 each a meal

If the OP only had 50quid then I'd suggest this.

She has 200.

That's plenty for two nights out with food and a zoo admission.

SheWoreYellow · 17/08/2021 17:15

It’s all about how much money your friend wants to spend. You need to ask her. If she has more in mind, then you don’t have enough. Otherwise it sounds ok I think?

fringeneedsatrim · 17/08/2021 17:16

Take advantage of the breakfast so you won't need a big meal at lunch... on city breaks to save money we often grab a sandwich from greggs and eat it on a bench for lunch!

Book zoo tickets online today to save money on the gate... website says the gated price is FROM £19.99 but the current book online discounted price for an adult this weekend is showing as £22.50 which would suggest the gate price is currently £25.

So long as your friend knows your on a budget so that you have the same mindset you'll have a fab time. Lots of drinks offers in bars so look out for things like 2-4-1 cocktails etc.

fredread · 17/08/2021 17:17

She's mentioning "the beach club" or something
It's about £9 a cocktail she said
Would have a couple then switch to Malibu
Only a couple as I don't want to be hungover

Sounds loads to me.

ifonly4 · 17/08/2021 17:20

If that's what you can afford, you can manage - it'll just be a case of eating/drinking within your limit, ie chosing a £10 main meal instead of a £20 one - easy as there's sure to be a choice of price ranges. Might be worth searching cocktail menus/options - we were away recently and just happened to end up at a place I already knew sold cocktails for £5. If you can only afford two cocktails, just have two. Might be worth dividing your budget and having a daily allowance.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/08/2021 17:21

Arrive:-
Exploring the promenade and pier. Free
Fish and chips for dinner the first night £9
Few drinks after at a cheap ish pub £30

Day 2-
The zoo will be a full day, take a meal deal for packed lunch £3 (plus entrance at £22.50)

Find a cheap Italians for pizza pasta and wine £25
Evening cocktails at the place she wants to go to £30

Day 3
more exploring, lunch £3
Drive home.

120 quid.

IdblowJonSnow · 17/08/2021 17:21

If 200 is just for you then that sounds plenty to me OP.

fringeneedsatrim · 17/08/2021 17:22

Quick google and assume she's talking about the beach house... it's not a cheap place to eat or drink.

fredread · 17/08/2021 17:22

I've found there's a revs and slug and lettuce and cocktails are 2 for 1 so that's good
Probably head there
Does anyone know any nice Italians ?

I think you’ll be fine. £100 for food & drinks and £100 for activities.

If you’re having a full English each morning, you aren’t going to want anything too substantial for lunch, I wouldn’t have thought? Fish cake or sausage & chips or a sandwich and a drink will be under £10. Leaving you with £45 for dinner and drinks each night. Cocktails might be a stretch but you could have one or two.

That leaves you with £100 for activities, so £19 for the zoo and it won’t be £80 for the big wheel, a tram ride and a stick of rock.

Alieninmybody · 17/08/2021 17:25

Sounds plenty to me. After petrol and the zoo you've £150 left so £50 each day but I'm assuming you'll spend less on arrival and departure day than the full day there.

After a big breakfast you'll only need a sandwich or something for lunch, maybe get a supermarket meal deal or even a bag of chips?
Have you any snacks or drinks you can bring from home for a picnic in the zoo or a drink in the hotel room before ye go out in the evenings?

MMMarmite · 17/08/2021 17:26

Sounds plenty as long as your friend doesn't want to spend the time in expensive venues. Might be worth discussing in advance with her how much is reasonable on a typical meal or night out.

fredread · 17/08/2021 17:27

Petrol isn't included in spending money.
It's the £200 just for spends.
Thankyou everyone

OP posts:
Alieninmybody · 17/08/2021 17:28

You've plenty so.

gogohm · 17/08/2021 17:28

Plenty! You can get a fish and chip supper for £10, drinks well that's open ended but you can cut according to your budget, and there's always Wetherspoons. If short get lunch from Tesco express or similar to take to the zoo

DiscoDown21 · 17/08/2021 17:35

You should be fine. However your friend may have other ideas and more funds so maybe you need to make it clear your budget before you go.

Like others have said it’s completely do able. Even with a couple of expensive cocktails as a treat. Cheap food and drinks will be found easily enough.
