I'm looking for a new raincoat for child
They all seem to have disappeared in the shops!!!
Where do you get yours from?

Go for a proper outdoor brand/shop. They're actually waterproof and available all year round, rather than a high street/fashion brand.

That said, we have had lovely ones from Joules before.

Galassia · 17/08/2021 11:41

La redoute.

LBOCS2 · 17/08/2021 11:52

Hatleys. They sell them directly or on a large, well known online shop ;) it all comes up quite large so it's good to last a long time and put plenty of layers on underneath. The patterns are cute too.

Agree with @NuffSaidSam Buy from a proper outdoor brand as they are proper waterproof rather than water resistant often with taped seams.

Mountain Warehouse are good for kids/reasonable prices if you shop around on the offers.

timtam23 · 17/08/2021 12:23

Mountain Warehouse have always been reliable for us and usually have reductions

purpleme12 · 17/08/2021 14:59

Thank you everyone will have a look then

Hatley or joules.

Carycy · 17/08/2021 15:09

Kuling from Alexa and alexa
Light house clothing does good raincoats with a thin fleece lining. Good for autumn.

spiderlight · 17/08/2021 15:27

Muddy Puddles, without a doubt.

(The 'Rainy Day' range are lovely and soft, not stiff/rustly).

purpleme12 · 17/08/2021 15:30

These raincoats from these brands
Do they tend to be thinner than coats?
Or the same thickness?
So hard when you can see them

Mountain Warehouse.
They have thin ones, ones that are warm and padded and ones that are thin raincoats with a detachable fleece lining for when it colder.

NuffSaidSam · 17/08/2021 16:16

They're nearly always thinner than a winter coat. Some come with a fleece layer as well so you can wear one or the other or both together for a warm and waterproof coat.

If you go for a proper outdoor brand they tend to be quite warm even though they're thin because they're wind resistant etc.

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 17/08/2021 16:23

I've been having the same issues. Last week I found some in Trespass.

gogohm · 17/08/2021 16:35

Mountain warehouse - look for a hydro rating of at least 5000 then it actually keeps them dry

NautaOcts · 17/08/2021 16:44

I love the hatley ones
Not super thick but have nice toweling lining and can wear jumper under. Keep them really dry but not the same as a really warm thick winter coat

NautaOcts · 17/08/2021 16:44

Great for autumn/spring and so called summer, plus winter days that aren’t too cold

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/08/2021 16:45

Do you have a Decathlon near you?

MinnieMountain · 17/08/2021 16:47

Didriksons if you just want something completely waterproof.

randomsabreuse · 17/08/2021 16:50

Decathlon, although I've got lucky with Lidl and Aldi for lightweight summer coats. For full on winter ski jackets are warm and waterproof although I got one from Asda for "smart"

B1rdinthebush · 17/08/2021 16:58

Decathlon are excellent.

hedgehogger1 · 17/08/2021 17:30

Craghoppers sale. We all got soaked in our waterproofs recently in torrential rain, all apart from DS in his craghoppers coat

reluctantbrit · 17/08/2021 18:15

Trespass, GoOutdoors, Decathlon, Mountain Warehouse for budget versions

Blacks, Cotswolds for more expensive one.

DD wears them since Reception and we never had a soaked through one. She is a Scout/Explorer and now uses them on her trips as well.

We have the rainjackets for Spring-Autumn and the ski jackets for Winter. Most were so good, I sold them when DD outgrew them after one year.

CustardyCreams · 17/08/2021 19:52

eBay or Vinted, loads and loads second hand and really cheap for all the good brands!

purpleme12 · 17/08/2021 21:51
