Ross on Wye, spent a couple of days there in the Summer, lovely town, lots of ofsted outstanding schools, well connected. Depends what's important to you though
I don't know Ross on Wye well, but I have visited Hay on Wye and loved it.
What's important to me?
Decent schools, decent transport connections, (so, relatively easy access to a station would be great). Somewhere with a bit of life, so the DC can get involved with stuff locally as they get older, so either in a city or large town, or with decent links to one.
I have friends and family in SE England, SW England, Wales, across Yorkshire and the North of England, and in Scotland. We don't need to be near any of them though. I'm from London and my friends have all left, there's no hometown to go back to now.
I'm not keen on the town I'm in plus the school is failing my secondary DC in particular. As things are about to change massively anyway, I've been wondering what other kind of life the DC and I might be living somewhere else.
My DC are secondary and older primary age. They need decent schools, somewhere to swim, activities to get involved with, decent WiFi, DS needs fellow geeks (easier to find in a city IME, although I know I'm more into the idea of city living than they are)
They're not that into rambling in the countryside, we live near some stunning scenery which I love but it's harder to get them out there these days!
