What is pointing in babies?

Hi, I'm just wondering what constitutes as pointing in infants? Is the traditional index finger point the only point that matters, or is an open handed lean towards something also considered a communicative point?
I have an 11month old DS and he's not gesturing at all however will stick out his arm and lean towards me if DH is carrying him and he wants me to carry him... Just wondering if this means anything (other than he likes me better haha)

It's not pointing, but it is communication, he's telling you he wants you to hold him.

Pointing doesn't have to be with an index finger, but a clear gesture in the direction of something (could be whole hand/few fingers).
