Boring one about secondary school shoes for boys

The school states black shoes with no coloured markings.
I've been looking on shop websites and most shoes that come up are classed as trainers - although some seem quite bulky for normal trainer stuff like running.
Is your school quite specific when it comes to shoes/trainers?
Thanks

Ours is. I've been looking at the wallaby soft leather shoes for ds. Sports direct have some reasonably priced.

StrangeAddiction · 15/08/2021 15:44

Our school is very strict regarding uniform.
I bought Ds2 (going into y7) Kickers Kelland shoes but I've had to send them back as one shoe hurt his ankle.

I found a pair on M&S website that he likes so I'm going to order them and see what he thinks.

I've also looked at Dr Martens and you can choose the colour of the stitching so they will be all black.

Pics of shoes...

I get my boys Hush Puppies. They're not embellished, plain black lace ups and they're comfortable for the long walk there and back!

Our school state they must be plain black and polishable so discounts trainers.

MrsMoastyToasty · 15/08/2021 15:47

DS school specifies formal shoes that can be polished.

EdinburghLights · 15/08/2021 15:51

Just to add Hush Puppies can be dear but there are often sale items and you can get them in discount shops, I'm sure I've got them in Shoe Zone before for around 50 quid... They really do fit the bill for school shoes. Something like this...

DS is starting secondary in September and his school have a strict uniform policy with no trainer style shoes. DS isn't good with laces, but I found these, which I assume should be okay.

Dr Martens only ever

SallyDontTouchThatPie · 15/08/2021 15:54

Yes our school even sends us photos so you cannot plead ignorance.

Ds wore Clarks because his feet are very wide, he had velcro the first 2 years and then had lace ups, again Clarks as he is H+ fitting.

Ours have to be polishable shoes, not trainer style.

AfternoonToffee · 15/08/2021 16:04

We can't have velcro, ds's have come from start rite, he preferred these over the Clarks ones.

Doc Martens trade shoes, tend to last a year a secondary with regular abuse of football, tag rugby, basketball and general teenage boy muppeting.
Trade shoes are cheaper and don't have the yellow stitching making them perfectly acceptable under uniform codes (used to teach in a boys grammar as well as having own boy at school)

hairycabbage · 15/08/2021 16:10

Deichman have a huge range of shoes that fit the bill. I got my 13 yo some yesterday (from men's section as he's size 10)

Be very careful with those as they might be deemed unsuitable- they do look more on the trainer side than formal shoe, also Kangol is a brand we watch out for.

They look nothing like trainers Hmm

balloonsintrees · 15/08/2021 23:14

@Hellocatshome and I didn't say that they did, would you care to actually read my post before commenting?

Hellocatshome · 15/08/2021 23:33

I did you said they looked more on the trainer side than a formal shoe and I said they looked nothing like trainers. Not sure what you arenangry about?

converseandjeans · 15/08/2021 23:53

These are closest we could find to trainers that are still shoes.

Schuh have a pair that are exactly like Nike AF1 but are polishable with no logos.

I think ds had these but we went through 2 pairs quickly. They arent that tough.
Have a look at Treads shoes

ineedaholidaynow · 16/08/2021 01:01

Why try and buy shoes that are nearly like trainers, why not just buy shoes that look like formal school shoes. Then you won’t have a problem with school and also make an expensive mistake

converseandjeans · 17/08/2021 00:40

ineedaholidaynow if you had a DS who was wanting to play footie every break/lunch then you would understand why formal/business shoes aren't suitable.

Bipbopboo66 · 17/08/2021 00:48

Be very careful.
Child told me "everyone wears the leather converse" Got told to replace.
Next child "everyone wears dm boots", told to replace.
Get a leather shoe that looks like a shoe not a trainer.
