Would you give your teen their birthday present early in these circumstances?

Ds has had a really tough year.

Due to an injury caused at school he’s had loads of time off, due to this and isolating due to bubbles bursting, hasn’t been able to do much of anything during this summer break.

His birthday is early Sept, so always falls on the return to school.

He knows what he’s having for his birthday, he’s picked all the specs (gaming pc) and it’s now ordered. Should be with us by the end of this wk.

With this in mind, the fact he’s not had the summer he could have had, rubbish year. Would you give a present early?

We’ve never done it before.

He’ll be 15 so will understand that on his actual birthday there will be possibly just cards to open.

I’ve name changed btw as this post could be quite outing.

I would, but get him something small and cheap to open on his birthday.

At his age I would ask him if he would like it earlier then just wrap up a bit of chocolate on his birthday.

yes, absolutely, as he'll have more time to enjoy it now than on his actual birthday.

Yes, I absolutely would. I would however wrap them and make a fuss as if it was his birthday. It’s tempting to just hand it over but that could be a bit of an anti climax. On his actual birthday I would also buy him something fun, like a big tub of sweets or chocolates, so he still has something to open. I hope he loves his present and has a better year.

I'd see if he'd like it when it arrives then buy something small/a couple of bits (t-shirts or similar) to open so he has a present or two on the day but you've not spent too much extra.

Absolutely!! He might as well have the fun of it rather than it sitting wrapped. He's 15!! I'm sure he can grasp the fact that it's his birthday present. But obviously still requires the usual birthday 'fuss', whatever that is in your house and a token present 🎁

Thanks everyone!

I think because we’ve had the same conversation every year (and never give in) it’s the right time to do it this year due to the circumstances.

The first day back at school for him last year, after all those months off due to lockdown, was on his birthday!

@Londoncatshed great idea to wrap everything, make a fuss.
