Did anyone else feel totally wired after their Covid vax?

Had my second jab on Friday. No real side effects, certainly none of the ones that I was told were likely. However I've felt utterly wired. Was the same after my first. I've barely slept since Friday, can't stop tapping my fingers and feet, listening to music and singing and dancing. I'm jabbering on a lot (as evidenced by this thread Grin), talking really fast and can't seem to shut up. Which is all weird as since having had Covid I've been extremely low on energy.

Has anyone else had this? Can't see it listed as a side effect at all. Is it perhaps a psychological thing? That I'm so delighted to be vaxxed I'm all full of energy and almost jittery?

Not complaining btw, very happy to be fully vaxxed. It's just strange.

I'm not an expert in any way. But my suggestion is that it could possibly be because your immune system is 'up' in response to the vaccine so it feels like your whole system is kind of buzzing. It happened to me too - I have some other autoimmune stuff so it happens to me sometimes anyway but definitely for several days after the vax

NoLeafClover · 15/08/2021 06:32

Oh that's interesting, as I also have some autoimmune conditions. Buzzing is exactly how I feel, really want to sleep but can't stop moving.

Yes! My husband did after his first but not second - I was very jealous. We both had Pfizer. He spoke to the people at the centre when he had his second jab and they said that they had only had 3 people report that reaction so is pretty uncommon

I had Pfizer too, @CCSS15. Yeah I mean I'm somewhat enjoying the feeling of having energy for the first time in months, but I'm getting to the overtired jittery stage. Like I literally blared SOAD and jumped up and down for 20 minutes this morning 🤣🤣

Yes!

Name changed for this as I’ve told a few people in real life. I don’t know anyone else who had this side effect.

I was horny as hell and high as a kite for over a week after my first jab. DP didn’t know what had hit him. I reported it to Yellowcard as sadly that’s not normal behaviour for me, I wish it was.

I was hoping for the same after my second jab but sadly not, just a dead arm.

NoLeafClover · 15/08/2021 08:32

It's a very weird feeling, isn't it, @Renamey? I have memorised the lyrics to a lot of songs, started playing the bass again, and gone up and down the stairs over and over. Would definitely have pounced on DH but he's working crazy hours at the moment so have barely seen him since Friday Grin

DS had his yesterday and hasn’t slept all night. I felt pretty wired after kne but not quite as extreme.

inmylifeIlovedthemall · 15/08/2021 08:42

Yes me.

I had quite bad side effects from my first Pfizer jab but after the second I came home, hoovered the house top to bottom, changed the beds, deep cleaned the bathroom and kitchen, spent three hours gardening, cooked for the freezer and eventually fell into bed at midnight. Up at 6 the next morning and did a 12 mile walk followed by more gardening.

I kid you not, i was like it for 3-4 days.

As you can tell from the fact I am currently lying in bed MNing it didn’t last, but I am still fascinated as to why.

GoodnightGrandma · 15/08/2021 08:44

No. Perhaps you’re just excited and relieved that you’ve had the jabs.

Tealwarrior · 15/08/2021 08:47

A few hours after having the vaccine my son had an episode lasting 15 minutes and none of us who were with him could believe what we were seeing. He was as high as a kite and he was even laughing at the state he was in. It was as if he’d had too much to drink and we put him to bed.

NoLeafClover · 15/08/2021 08:49

I wish I could channel all this mad energy into things that productive, @inmylifeIlovedthemall. I've mostly been dancing and jumping around, though I think sleep is starting to creep up on me. Lying on the sofa and my eyes are getting heavy so I'm hoping for a nice snooze

Had a nap this morning and am back to sitting up feeling wired. On the plus side I've mastered Evil by Interpol and Otherside by the RHCP on the bass. The minus is that I'm starting to feel a bit loopy.

There's at least one other thread on this that got a fair number of replies so worth a search if you're inclined.
A relative of mine who isn't on Mumsnet was the same.
I wonder what all the different reactions mean?

KarenofSparta · 16/08/2021 05:25

Not sure now if I'm relieved or envious that I didn't have Pfizer! But my reactions to AZ were the opposite, sleepiness, sleepiness & some more sleepiness for good measure.

Not sure what it all means just grateful that was the only symptom, and grateful to have the vaccine available here.

Parentingdilemmas · 16/08/2021 05:38

Interesting thread as my OH has been talking a lot since he had his second jab. Also, he has a period of inconsolable high as a kite laughter and I just couldn’t see what was so funny 😒 makes sense now if it’s happening due to the vaccine

leafygarden42 · 16/08/2021 05:44

We were all a bit 'giddy' at work when we had the vaccines in our department back in January.

I think it was relief at having had the vaccine....Not quite so giddy with the second one, but still felt really happy!

NoLeafClover · 16/08/2021 22:56

Thanks, @TulipTuloo, I will definitely have a look. I don't know really what the different reactions mean, I guess we just all respond differently. For example, I was once prescribed heavy duty painkillers for a serious problem with my back. They alleviated the pain but otherwise didn't affect me in the slightest. Whereas when my Mum was prescribed the same painkillers, they made her vomit constantly and left her high as a kite and unable to get out of bed. So just different tolerances to different meds I suppose?

@KarenofSparta, same here. Just very happy to be vaxxed. And having had covid, I can say with absolute certainty that I'd take any side effects over going through that utter misery again. It was easily the worst experience I have ever had.

NoLeafClover · 16/08/2021 23:03

That is interesting @parentingdilemmas. I definitely had the giggles too. And I'm not someone who laughs much, but I giggled away like crazy during a Facetime with my extended family the other day. Definitely back down on solid ground now though, sleep is still a bit difficult but I'm definitely not feeling as manic. Hope your OH is feeling better now too.

OP posts:
NoLeafClover · 16/08/2021 23:06

Yeah @leafygarden42, I've wondered if it's psychosomatic tbh. As you said, out of pure relief. Though I don't mind, I'm starting to level out now and it's definitely worth it to be fully vaxxed.
