At what ages do kids stop endlessly fucking about at bathtime/bedtime??

I have 6 and almost 9yo boys. The pissing about at the end of the day is off the scale. Will this ever end?!?

I have nothing to do with my 9yo bed and haven’t for a couple of years. He showers, washes his hair, gets in to pjs, brushes teeth and reads until lights out. I pull his blinds down and have a chat and a kiss goodnight before I go down. 5yo also has a good routine. I’m quite strict though and kids know not to muck about, some parents prefer to be softer.

There has to be consequences for this behaviour, if it has got to age 9. Tough love.

@BotBotticelli at around about the age when they spend an hour in shower and eat six meals a day.

Ah man, I really miss the bedtime shenanigans Sad mine are both in their 20's now and all grown up. Make the most of it before the empty nest strikes.

Had sds, his wife and littlies (2 & 4) for the week; just left yesterday. At the time it was blooming knackering, but the house is soooooo quiet now. Right little noisy devils!

SwanShaped · 19/08/2021 14:10

@newnortherner111 what consequences work for you?

Ragwort · 19/08/2021 17:58

Meglet why not try going to bed before them? At 14 & 12 they should be able to be sensible - lock up and head off to bed and shut your bedroom door firmly and tell them not to disturb you.

12 year old DS has faffing down to a fine art. It's absolutely ridiculous how long he takes to get ready for bed. He's worse during term time as that's when the verbal diarrhoea kicks in and he starts talking about his day in great detail!

I so so feel your pain. I have 2 9 year old boys and bedtimes are STILL difficult. Girls are generally easier and get on with it more IME.
They much about and wouldn’t do a thing unless I’m standing right there hurrying them up with every move. They just get silly together and lay naked somewhere flinging a pair of pants at each other or wrestling or something.
However, if I say, you can watch a film IF you get ready for bed in 10 mins and I’m putting the timer on they are sometimes ok. Or if I send them up one at a time they are better

Itstheprinciple · 19/08/2021 19:49

They don't. They just get old enough that you go to bed and leave them to it.

LucyLocketsBlackCat · 19/08/2021 19:59

DS1 (age 27) still does it. Luckily he left home years ago.

toolazytothinkofausername · 19/08/2021 20:01

I'm 33 and still piss around at bedtime Grin

Hahahahahaha

I have three girls - 9, 7, and 5 - and bath/bedtime is shit. My eldest might be ASD, mind you, but the other two are dickheads also.

It's better when I do it than when DH does, mind you, but that's because I'm scarier than him.
