Getting up time?

Just interested. When do you wake up, get up and when psychology feels like the right time.

I have a job that starts at 7am. I like early mornings normally because I feel I get more day. Partner does theatre, so all late nights.. No way could I do that.
Tomorrow I have to get up at 5.15am for it which feels too bloody early although maybe it’s because I have work rather than the time itself. I’m usually waking up by then.

Interested in others ideal waking and start time.

5:45am is my natural waking time. I get straight up except at weekends when I lie in until 6am.
I love the early mornings and have always, since being a child, been an early to bed early to rise type.

I wake naturally between 5,30 and 6. I have a coffee in bed then am up at 6.30 and exercise. Home by around 7.30, in work 8.30

Though I love early mornings when I am up for them (usually by necessity) my natural waking time is 08:00, thankfully it's the same for DD and DH.

During the school/work week we all drag ourselves out of bed (like hissing vampires) at 7.

DD goes to bed at 7:30pm, DH and I got to bed at midnight (though should be earlier).

Naturally wake up around 7.30/8.

Similar job to your partner, so work finishes at 10/10.30pm 3-4 nights a week. Then there’s aftershow drinks, commute back, dinner. Normally get back home at midnight.

Main problem is that the other 3 days of the week, we need to be in at 9am. Which means waking up at 6.30. I’m constantly tired, currently on a weekend off and still can’t swap the schedule for a more normal and restful one.

I’m actually a morning person and my natural wake up time could be 6am, if I was going to bed at semi-decent times!

I wake about 7.

Get up about 8 and exercise and shower.

Start work about 930.

Schools back next week so will have to adjust to getting the kids off to school. They need to leave by 825.

MotionActivatedDog · 14/08/2021 22:08

Normally I wake around 7 when the alarm goes off. Without an alarm I wake when I hear the dog getting down off the sofa, usually between 8 and 9. If I don’t wake when she gets up she ‘yips’ at me to get up.

I wake naturally around 7.30 which is also around the same time my toddler DC wake up (sometimes they wake earlier, mostly later or same time though).

Kite22 · 14/08/2021 22:15

If I'm not at work, and not needing to be anywhere else, I won't wake before about 9.30. Sometimes not until getting on for 11

BertieBotts · 14/08/2021 22:17

I'm a night owl, really struggle with anything before 8am. My ideal waking time is around 11am and I'd go to bed around 2am if I can be totally on my own schedule. Sadly I have small children so I'm not!

BikeRunSki · 14/08/2021 22:19

Left to my own devices, I’d sleep 2am-10am, a nod work at 12 noon to about 8pm. I did this for a few years as a research student, with not a lot of tie in with the real world!

Unfortunately, although I have a very flexible job, I can’t quite do those hours with 2 x dc and dh, do I tend to get up at around 6.30am with gritted teeth. Every sinew in my body objects to bring awake until at least 10am though!

BikeRunSki · 14/08/2021 22:20

@BertieBotts, right there with you in spirit and night owl sisterhood.

GreenGordon · 14/08/2021 22:22

Naturally wake around 6.45. Have tea in bed and read my book then get up for shower and breakfast at around 7.30. Walk dog then start work around 9.00.

catsjammies · 14/08/2021 22:24

I naturally wake up at 8.30. But my kids sleep is shit. The rare nights they sleep through I usually wake at about 6 and can't go back off!

Fdksyihfd · 14/08/2021 22:26

7.30-8 would be my perfect time but since starting work (following being a student) I’ve never been able to do that and now I have DC it’s pretty impossible

Tempusfudgeit · 14/08/2021 22:27

I used to be a night owl. Then I had children. Wondering if I'll revert to type when they grow up.

Henrytheehoover · 14/08/2021 22:28

My natural wake time is nearer 9am.

When I have to wake its 6am. I used to have a job that started at 6am. Confused I absolutely detested getting up at 4am to get ready for it (I had a long commute)

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 14/08/2021 22:29

iI work varying shifts. If I have a 7am start i get up at 5:15 and leave the house at 6:15 as its a 40 minute drive. However I more often start at 11:30 and work until 8pm, or start at 14:00 and work until 10am the next day with a 6 hour on call/ sleep "break" during which it's actually very difficult to switch off.

I'm with these two. A natural night owl who struggles with mornings. Thank goodness I don't have small children any more, but I do have to go to work.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 14/08/2021 22:34

I must say since my youngest spent his first 36 months waking every 30-90 minutes with very intense needs for comfort when awake I've learned to fall asleep very fast, which does help at work but my sleep remains shallow - I genuinely can sleep standing up but I also wake at the slightest sound. It does work for my profession I guess, but sometimes leaves me sleep deprived.
