Things to do in/around Plymouth?

We're off to Devon in a week and will be staying just outside of Plymouth.
Has anyone got any ideas or know of any hidden gems for us to visit? It will be me and 2 children - 7&10yo.
Don't mind paying for a few days out but I do love a free day out with a picnic. Weather is looking ok so far so fingers crossed.
Thanks for any ideas 💡 😀

Tinside Lido is a beautiful Art Deco swimming pool. Cotehele and Saltram are two National Trust properties, don't know if you like them or not.

Crealy Devon is a lovely day out, near Exeter.

Take the ferry across to Mount Edgcumbe. Picnic there (or there's a cafe at bottom and top). Walk the grounds (free).

Hopefully someone from Plymouth can confirm this ferry goes from Stonehouse?

We used to.like walking Jenny Cliff and looking out to sea. There was a cafe there but could also take a picnic.

Life centre for swimming where Tom Daley started his diving career (after they pulled the old one down!).

The Hoe is lovely on a sunny day.

Tinside pool for definite if it's sunny.

Where are you staying as depending on what side, we can offer more ideas.

The Aquarium is really good and the outdoor pool as well. Go up to Dartmoor, lots of lovely places for a picnic.

Wembury is nice out that way. And Noss Mayo is quaint. Not too far from Dartmoor, so plenty of fresh air to be had there.

Woodlands them park would be good for that age I think. There’s pennywell farm not too far away, though that might be a little bit ‘young’ for your older one unless they are particularly interested in animals (you can hold pigs and rabbits and things).

Bigbury bay and mothecombe beach are both very nice.

There is a boat trip leaving from the Barbican that takes you passed the Dockyard and warships. You can get to the aquarium from the Barbican and there are some nice fish and chip shops.

On the way to Dartmoor there is a little village called Yelverton. There are old airfield where they hid planes during WW2. There is a large rock to climb, Dartmoor ponies who come right up to you if you have food and a little cafe.

Dartmoor ponies are suffering from an outbreak from strangles so visitors to the Moors should not approach them.
