I saw an old clip of Joan Armitrading and Tracy Chapman singing (separately) at a festival on the BBC a while back and thought how refreshing it was to see two women on stage who had the confidence to perform in public without any obvious signs of plastic surgery/lots of make up, and just being themselves. They both looked incredibly beautiful too. It's sad that this is such a rare sight nowadays! (Although I also enjoyed watching Dolly Parton and Dame Shirley Bassey in the same programme despite their very different aesthetic.)

It seems wrong to be making comparisons on beauty alone but I don't consider Helen Mirren to be beautiful although many people do. I do think Meryl Street is a beauty. She has fantastic cheek bones and the camera highlights the planes of her face wonderfully well. Her quick witted intelligence shines through too.

I know "energy" is talked about too much in the US, but I suspect many film stars have it in abundance, as well as an inner confidence and a certain ease with themselves. All of those things are very attractive in addition to physical beauty.

Salma Hayek definitely has 'energy' I could listen to her (watch her) talking for hours. So much charisma.

It's funny how our perspectives vary; beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder. For example I wouldn't categorise Gwyneth Paltrow as truly beautiful. She has a gorgeous body of course and she is very, very, attractive by anyone's standards but I don't think of her as a true beauty (would love to look half as attractive as her of course!).

For men I would say Denzel Washington and early Kevin Costner (but only with short hair ).

So true. I would say the same about Jennifer Anistion. She’s is very attractive but I wouldn’t say shes beautiful.
