Any hornet wranglers awake...?

If any rebels are awake: there is a hornet buzzing around sporadically on the bedroom light. It is massive and there's no way I can sleep in there, but DD will go in first thing! And she is currently so anxious, she wants all the cleaning products out of the house in case she accidentally drinks one and dies, so a fucking hornet is going to make her afraid to ever sleep again. What do you do, to get rid of them? No way are we approaching this like we would a wasp. It's a monster-sized thing. Anyone have any suggestions?

Or people in other hemispheres, of course. No need for maternal rebellion in Australia, right now.

I would approach it as you would a wasp; as far as I’m aware, hornets are far less aggressive than wasps.

Use the glass and paper technique.

I've put the outside porch light on, turned the light off, and shut the door - there's been silence for a while, so hopefully it's gone for the light outside, and the intermittent engine-like-roar won't start up again. If it does, I'll try the wasp technique, But this settles it - we are getting window screening.

I hadn't seen a hornet before - they are mammoth.

Window screens are an absolute must here. Wasps, Daddy longlegs, and mosquitos. The night we moved in it was August and the room filled with mosquitos.

We found a company that makes custom screens. They were not expensive. I loved the company name, No Fly Zone.

Hornets are flipping buggers! I get them here (fairly rural) mostly noticeable at night.

From what I’ve read, they navigate by “light” and are active at night as well as day. So, if you have lights on at night, with doors or windows open, then they may come in. I had one last night. Flip flop sorted him. Sorry everyone - hornets are an exception . I do everything possible to get a bee safely out of my house.

Yes, we're hornet free right now... but window screens are the plan!
