Triggering: heavy bleeding but I haven't miscarried? Anybody had this?

Apologies if my title is upsetting to anybody, I just need some specific advice.

I'm 11 weeks pregnant and I woke up this morning bleeding really heavily. Pretty much like a heavy period.

The midwife sent me to A&E, where I've been all day. They've run blood and urine tests, nothing is amiss. They also did an ultrasound and the baby looks fine. They also said they couldn't see anything wrong with the womb or cervix.

I'm now back home but I'm still bleeding.

Despite being initially relieved that the baby is fine, I'm now worried that it isn't over.

Has anybody had this happen? What could cause such a bleed if not miscarriage?

Without being too graphic, there's only one place blood could come from 'up there' so I'm confused that everything seems in tact.

I just can't relax, I feel like it's going to get worse. But then why would they have sent me home?

Yes, I had it in all of my pregnancies, right around the same time. All of my DC were fine.

I had heavy bleeding from around 21 weeks. It was caused by a placental abruption. At one point this was visible on the ultrasound, but later they couldn’t see anything and yet the bleeding continued.
I hope everything works out for you.

Yes. It was an infection. Said baby is now 17

All four of my pregnancies involved bleeding. Two ended in v early MCs (6 weeks or less); by far the worst bleeding was with DS2.

A friend bled massively - some sort of clot - at about your gestation and baby was absolutely fine.

Subchorionic haematoma. They usually resolve themselves by 20 weeks. Make sure your EPU scan you regularly. Best of luck OP Thanks

I would try not to worry. These things do happen. With my first, I had heavy gushing bleeding at 10 weeks. With my 2nd, I bled heavily for 2 weeks 7-9 weeks. Both absolutely normal otherwise straightforward pregnancies. I just have a cervical ectropion which bleeds a lot. Oddly, the pregnancy where I actually had a miscarriage I didn’t bleed at all (after many weeks I needed a d&c as nothing happened naturally). Given how far along you are and all looks well on scan, that sounds like very good news. Hopefully it stops soon.

As spongeboob said- subchorionic haematoma. I had this at 10 weeks, a sudden and large amount of bleeding (my pyjama bottoms would have been soaked had I not reached the loo in time.) Like you I felt sure there had to be something wrong but he was in there wriggling away the next morning but it was a shock!

I think in my case it was a pocket of bruising/bleeding next to the womb. I had had an early scan at 8 weeks (because of bleeding) and it was casually mentioned that I would most likely get more…. But I had no idea it would be that much! My bleeding did ease off but still carried on lightly for a few weeks I remember and resolved itself after about 14 weeks I think.

Namechange600 · 14/08/2021 00:20

Yes - had a subchronionic hematoma like a PP. a bleed from where the placenta trying to attach I think? it was petrifying especially as had three years infertility prior to that. I was scanned regularly. I did bed rest (advised to do so in US when it started, here they say carry on. I think the rest helped). My baby is nearly 10!
She did arrive early as can be a risk with subchronionic hematomas apparently.

Yes. I had a large subchorionic hematoma that resolved itself by 28 weeks - DS is now 6.
