Best vouchers for baby gift?

Sp1ke3 · 13/08/2021 16:56

I’m responsible for the collections at my work. A colleague is going on maternity leave shortly and we’re having a whip round. There will probably be about £100. Mum-to-be would prefer vouchers but won’t give any clue where from. Any ideas where would best?

I generally go for Amazon. You can buy almost anything and the expiry date is ten years I think! Much longer than any other vouchers.

pinkmoon18 · 13/08/2021 17:01

Amazon is a good shout! I bought quite a lot off there post birth for baby!

I got a variety when I left, boots, next, John Lewis, H&M

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 13/08/2021 17:03

sorry, but I'm against vouchers.
it limits what they can buy.
just give them a cheque or cash

She said the mum asked for vouchers

I recently had a baby and my most used gift vouchers were for boots - they do loads more baby stuff than you might realise. These days Amazon is rarely,if ever, the cheapest!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 13/08/2021 17:27

@pinkmoon18

I'm aware, but that's just a polite way to say "don't get me a physical gift".
people prefer cash, it's more practical

girlmama32 · 13/08/2021 17:28

Amazon would probably be my first choice because you can get literally anything.
We got a few when I had DD, the best ones were probably John Lewis, Asda and Clarks.

I second giving cash.

HalloHello · 13/08/2021 18:00

I would also say Boots, lovely clothes, and loads of bigger stuff online or smaller bits in store. Very helpful Imo

drpet49 · 13/08/2021 18:03

M&S- they can spend it on anything, food, baby clothes, stuff for themselves etc

Sp1ke3 · 13/08/2021 19:01

Thanks for the suggestions. They have “moral” objections to Amazon!!! Looks like it’s between John Lewis, Boots or M&S. Which would be better?

I can’t give cash as we work remotely. I’ve never actually met them in real life. I wouldn’t be comfortable posting a large amount of cash and cheques are really awkward, particularly if you’re lugging a small baby around. It has to be vouchers, I’m afraid.

Someone at work suggested either The White Company or Mamas and Papas but I didn’t think they were general enough.

I got given a one4all gift voucher. There are so many places I can use it (including boots) and the expiry dates on them are about 5 years!

Cannes12 · 13/08/2021 20:00

John lewis for sure

BertieBotts · 13/08/2021 20:04

Boots then. TBH we got amazon vouchers when DS2 was born and I struggled to find items I wanted on there. We ended up getting the car seat base with them but it was lucky they stocked it as they didn't have all the brands.

ronswansonstache · 13/08/2021 20:06

I got John Lewis ones from my work and put them towards my buggy! Very useful.

Mum could get a couple of nice treats for herself too as well as baby stuff.

stormelf · 13/08/2021 20:10

I would go for boots. I got boots vouchers for both my children and found them very useful.

tiredmama2020 · 13/08/2021 20:11

@Sp1ke3 I would avoid Boots unless you know the recipient has a decent store near them. They sell a huge variety of baby stuff online but you can’t spend their vouchers online unfortunately!
I got John Lewis vouchers from my work and they were great! We already had all the big stuff we needed for baby but I used it to get some nice clothes for him and things like cot sheets & baby bath towels 😊

8dpwoah · 13/08/2021 20:16

I think for a multipurpose treat I'd say M&S, they can get things for baby and nice food (ready meals !) for themselves.

Although I'd probably split it between M&S and Boots (although didn't know they don't accept vouchers online for Boots, seems a bit backwards!) if you get that sort of amount of cash.

GemmaRuby · 13/08/2021 20:19

Definitely John Lewis. Second choice M&S.

BikeRunSki · 13/08/2021 20:23

M&S. Then she could buy wine and food if she wanted! Or baby clothes. Or stuff for her.

Newchances · 13/08/2021 20:36

Next or m&s. At work recently we actually give 100 for baby and a 30 just eat voucher worked out well lol. We usually do up a food hamper but did just eat this time as we hasn't seen her in a long time.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 13/08/2021 23:19

You can't go wrong with John Lewis.

ThePenIsBlue · 14/08/2021 07:15

100% John Lewis

MsJuniper · 14/08/2021 09:34

I always go with John Lewis. They can be used in Waitrose too and it feels like a nice gift as they can buy something special from JL.
