A couple of medical questions, record keeping and stuff

I'm in a medical situation where there's a lot of gaslighting going on, a lot of people passing things off as mental health when I know for a fact there's something physical going on. Two questions:

  1. A specialist recently wrote a letter to my GP, in which he deliberately missed out a load of really important information, even though we discussed it extensively in the appointment. Is there any point in me writing a letter with more details of what we actually discussed in the appointment, and insisting that it gets put on my medical records? You know like sometimes you get a phone call from an annoying client at work, and you might send an email to say "I am writing to summarise what we discussed in our phone conversation..."
  1. If I go to any NHS medical appointment, am I allowed to insist that the appointment be recorded and transcribed? Or, may I record it myself and say so?

I wouldn't be asking unless the situation was getting serious. Please don't ask me about the medical details, I don't have the energy to discuss it right now.

Just out of complete curiosity, why would a gp and specialist both want to gaslight you?

Leavesofautumn · 12/08/2021 22:52

Constantly telling me my problems are psychosomatic, and trying to pass it all off as mental health problems, when I know for a fact that I have a physical medical disorder but they're refusing to acknowledge it.

I really don't have the energy to discuss it any more. I'd just like to ask about my two main questions.

You have the right to raise a concern that the notes are inaccurate and ask for them to be changed, but if they feel that was their medical opinion at the time i dont think they have to change it, but they would have to explain to you why and you can then request an addendum to be added with your reasons for refuting the initial diagnosis.

Im not sure accusing multiple medical professionals of gaslighting will help your case if they already think some of the issues are mental and not physical- no judgement here, i just mean be careful with the language you use in your letter to them as these terms wont help your case

Why though? Why would both of those people do that to you?

Any other information, please?

I would call or email the doctors secretary and say that you would like to record your consultation. You can Google this on the BMA website.

You can record your consultation as it is your right to do so.

You can also submit written information which should generally be uploaded to your notes.
