Dylon black pod washing machine dye

Does anyone have any experience with it? My black skinny jeans I wear to work have faded quite a bit and I was hoping to refresh them rather than buying new. I've read the reviews on Amazon and I'm a bit worried about my washing machine. There are a lot of people who have said it stained the machine and leeches dye onto other clothes for a long time after. Any words of wisdom?

I used it on some trousers and I washed OH’s work clothes (black t-shirts) in the following wash and they were fine. No washing machine problems subsequently.

I’ve used them many times on my favourite gap work trousers with no problem. You have to run a hot cycle after with an empty drum.

WisestIsShe · 12/08/2021 21:56

It's absolutely fine if you follow the instructions.

Yes I've used these, a few different colours and never had a problem. I do an extra hot Rinse, just in case!

Ageing goth here...never had a problem, probably because the next load is always black clothes anyway Wink.

The only thing is that they don't dye very much - maybe one garment & a couple of small tops. If you try to cheapskate it by putting too much in, you can end up with a patchy or charcoal result.

Yes I normally do 2 pairs of jeans max

I used to use on a pair of black jeans when they were looking worn out , used to bring them up lovely. You used to have to a kilogram of salt in with it .

Followed the instructions diligently and got flecks of dark blue on stuff for several washes afterwards. Physically scrubbed the door seal and everything. The flecks mostly could be picked off or washed off, but not ideal really. I wondered if the pod thing had been sat in the shop for too long.

Thanks so much for the replies. I'm planning on buying 2 pods for 2 pairs of jeans and a small top. Will give it a go Smile

I've used with navy version and followed the instructions to hot wash empty machine after, my whites all still come out white and the bedding I dyed looks ace

Will watch out when I'm going to wash DS's school shirts. Perhaps I will try a tester wash on some old light coloured towels I'm using as rags first

I’ve used machine dyes many times, they are great for towels and have never had any problems. I just do a hot wash cycle afterwards and then the next wash is fine.

Some machines may have economy functions so check that the hot cycle afterwards is a thorough one.

InpatientGardener · 12/08/2021 22:15

I used a turquoise one of these and it did stain the grey rubber around the door slightly, but there hasn't been any colour transfer in subsequent washes. I stuck a tea towel through on a quick wash to be totally sure. Was impressed with the dye and how even it came out!

JustMeAndWheatley · 12/08/2021 22:54

I’ve used black and navy ones many times and never had a problem.

LadyPoison · 12/08/2021 23:00

I use the black one regularly as I live in black jeans. I've never had a problem but I always run the machine empty for a hot cycle afterwards.

MrsPear · 12/08/2021 23:46

Another vote for follow the instructions to the letter. One pair of jeans per pod only gets the best results. I always run a hot wash (90) after - this should be done on a regular basis anyway for cleaning. Never had issues afterwards.

Chrestomanci3 · 13/08/2021 14:21

I used a red one recently, followed instructions for cleaning afterwards completely, but still put a colour-catcher sheet in the next few washes. First wash post-cleaning came out a bit pink, second wash was fine.

Thanks for all the advice. I've just completed the dying process and had a sneak peak before putting the clothes back in to wash. Two pairs of faded jeans and a top which had seen better days look like new! No staining to the machine as far as I can see and have a cleaning sachet to use afterwards to get rid of anything left over
