So this might sound like a ridiculous question but do I need to take bath towels?? We are obviously taking beach towels but is there usually bath towels provided? Also there is a dish washer. Will they provide a couple of tablets or should I take some??

We are staying in a self catering apartment and all these last minute things have come to me.. I'm usually in a hotel abroad and don't think of these things 😂

Any other last minute things or essentials i may not have thought of??!

And a large mug if you like that as cups are sometimes small, DH even takes his abroad as they are always small

Antsinyourpanta · 12/08/2021 21:54

There arent any wine glasses here - I'd never have considered packing those!!🤣🤣

scully29 · 12/08/2021 21:54

Yes I think you all have too higher expectation of cornwall life. It is sandy here, thats part of it! We are out having fun and our houses are sandy! Its normal here. We dont see a difference in towel sets. Bring 2 lots of beach towels maybe?

480Widdio · 12/08/2021 21:56

Where I always stay in Cornwall they have stopped providing towels! because of Covid, makes no sense as they are still providing bed linen.

Lulu1919 · 12/08/2021 21:57

Last four or five self catering cottages I have rented there have been towels ,couple dishwasher tablets a couple washing machine tablets washing up liquid and a spray kitchen cleaner minimum
Usually at least one loo roll in each loo

Cookiedough123 · 12/08/2021 22:01

Ooooh @Antsinyourpanta you just reminded me gin glass!!

There was definitely no inventory, it did say dishwasher and washing machine. To be honest I'm not too worried about bits like that as we can always go the shop. Just didn't want to have to use our beach towels all the time like someone said we will be using them at the beach most days.

Hand soap too. Just arrived at our holiday let . Plenty of loo roll, but no soap.

FlyingScott · 12/08/2021 22:02

I always take our own bath towels.
I hate the thought of patting my face dry with something that umpteen other people have rubbed on their arse.
Also, holiday cottage towels are usually washed with fabric softener which might make them nice and fluffy but totally useless for actually drying anything.

costcocosmos · 12/08/2021 22:04

@CloudPop

And a decent knife. Many UK self catering places don't provide one.
They do, it's just that guests pinch them! They pinch pretty much anything that isn't nailed down. Sad but true. Although I'm sure MN guests don't Wink

Ok , I have a holiday cottage
We make the beds and provide bath and hand towels
We provide loo rolls ( usually 3 , depending how long you’re staying )
Also dishwasher tabs ( 1 per day ) fairy liquid , tea towels , j cloth and sponge scourer
There’s also a few tea bags , coffee and sugar ( and a knife sharpener , cling film , salt , pepper mill )
We provide an airing rack to dry swimsuits etc on and a nice outdoor space to leave it on
Bring your own beach towels though and talc to get the sand off your feet
Everything will be clean when you arrive , and the basics provided for you to keep the place clean while you’re there ( should you be staying here anyway )
Enjoy your holiday 🌞

@scully29

And piglet I live in Cornwall and own no oven glove and only 2 tea towels. Maybe thats how we role here? Why more than 2?
How do you get things out of the oven without burning yourself? I will admit to being a bit weird about tea towels though. I use a fresh one every day and there are only three of us at home, so IMO you need a lot more than two to last 12 people a week! Smile
WildFlowerBees · 12/08/2021 22:08

I'm no help I take everything but the kitchen sink! Own pillows and duvet included!

badlydrawnbear · 12/08/2021 22:09

We stayed somewhere (not Cornwall) where towels were provided, but for each bed there was a hand towel and a small bath towel. That didn't do the 2 of us for a week in a house where it was impossible to dry anything. Fortunately, I brought plenty spare towels for the beach/ swimming pool or we would have had to buy some from a supermarket.

Bexily · 12/08/2021 22:12

We have a box with baking trays, a decent tin opener (always have issues with them in self catering places for some reason), tea, coffee, sugar, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, washing powder, cloths & tea towels in. They usually state on the accommodation details of towels are provided so I'd presume not and take some if I were you.

Notverygrownup · 12/08/2021 22:15

Have stayed in lots of self catering. I always take my own towels - it's a bonus then if there are some.

I always take a few bit to get us through to the first shop. Usually there are teabags and milk, but occasionally there aren't. Ditto dishwasher tablets. I like to take a washing up brush too - some places give you a nice new one each week but not all.

Have a lovely week.

Dangermouse80 · 12/08/2021 22:21

Take bath towels - you can never have too many. Also taking dishwasher and clothes washing stuff and loo rolls. Generally they give you a few to start with. Also recommend hand soap. Have a lovely holiday.

Terhou · 12/08/2021 22:29

If bedlinen is provided I'd guess that includes towels, but I'd take some beach towels separately.

Toddlerteaplease · 12/08/2021 22:39

Once stated in a beautiful cottage that had everything you could ever want. Except oven gloves!

beigebrownblue · 12/08/2021 22:44

I live in North Somerset and would take the following:

salt and pepper (not powdered but mills as I have standards lol)
olive oil
pasta
garlic press
cheese parmesan or various (bearing in mind lovely cornish cheese can be purchased there
teabags
aspirin
sanitary towels
plasters
bandages (if a and e not open due to covid)
hand wash'
sanitiser
face masks
paper towels
spray disinfectant
tomato soup
spices
shampoo
moisturiser
loo roll
Kitchen sink
servants
house maid
cleaner preferably

valet.

That's it.

Always so annoying when the staff want the day off on a Sunday isn't it lol.

BunnyRuddington · 12/08/2021 22:50

Vaselike · 12/08/2021 23:04

Knife sharpener.

But they have shops there as well as the dragons.

Lysianthus · 12/08/2021 23:10

Sharp knife, bottle opener, corkscrew, tin opener, candles, screwdriver, chopping board, Tupperware for leftovers, tinfoil, matches, sense of humour, bottle of wine. Errr....that’s it! Have a lovely time.

Notdoingthis · 12/08/2021 23:37

Cornwall has shops.

Cookiedough123 · 13/08/2021 04:22
