What time is too late/antisocial to cut the grass?

Is 7pm too late to be cutting the grass? Would it annoy you as a neighbour? My dp is doing our lawn as it's really overgrown, not sure if people are arsed or not Grin

Personally I'd be a bit miffed if someone did it past 8pm as I have a toddler to get to sleep but not sure on the etiquette!

We stop any outdoor stuff at 9pm..
Still day light!

I would also say 8pm (that's DS's bedtime!Grin).

9pm. After that don’t annoy me with your noise, and don’t phone me unless it’s an emergency. That said, you can start as early as you like 😁

Too late after 8.30pm ideally and 9pm definitely.

Depends on the neighbours.

We have a family with a 3 and 6 year old on one side and if the children are in bed (room facing the garden) then we are finished with work.

Other side neighbours has two teen and wouldn't be bothered at all if we cut the grass at 8-9pm.

If people can have outdoor bbqs and parties and drive mopeds around until the small hours of the morning then the drone of a lawnmower at 7pm is absolutely nothing. I might get annoyed at a chainsaw but lawnmower noise is just normal and shouldn’t keep a baby awake.

Chasingsquirrels · 12/08/2021 19:58

8.30pm probably.
But actually I wouldn't really care at any time, but I live in a detached house with double glazing so not massively disturbed by neighbouring noise.

I'm an absolute nightmare for unnecessary noise but 7pm to cut the grass is fine IMHO. Anything up to 8.30 is fine. My 3 year old is usually still shrieking and running around outside at that time, I swear she's louder than a lawn mower sometimes 🤣

I agree. People don't come inside at 7pm in summer or lower their voices at that time. It's normal to socialise in daylight hours, so often as late as 10pm outside. Lawnmower I'd put in the same noise category.

I work at home with the window facing the garden. I do see a huge difference between a lawnmower and my neighbour playing with her children,.

For the first I need to close the window to make a call, for the latter I don't.

And that's for your average semi house size lawn.

Sitting outside in the evening with a BBQ and chatting to DH/DD or even a friend is nothing compared to a lawnmower.
