Ask for numbing cream (I’m sure they’ll do this without being asked anyway). If you hug her with her arm round you so the nurse/ dr can get to her arm without being seen , someone can distract with bubbles/ iPad / being loud and silly.

We have the numbing cream but apparently the blood gas one as to come from the bone don’t know how true this is tbh

Blood gas is blood drawn from an artery. I've had it done and I'm sorry to tell you that it is incredibly painful 😰 I got a local anesthetic because I could not deal with the pain.
One of my autistic kids required a few blood tests and I found the easiest way was to swaddle like a newborn with one arm out, a few people to help hold him and loads of cuddles with netflix/YouTube to try and distract.
It's not an easy thing to have to do with your child. Stay as calm as possible at the time and allow yourself time after to cry/settle yourself

Is it being done at a hospital, I am guessing so as she needs blood gases done? If it is it would be worth asking if they have a play specialist who can help.

Leximai19 · 12/08/2021 20:06

We are none the wiser our hospital is useless it’s like they don’t care tbh but you say autism is there a way we could private message ?

Blood gas wasn't required for my son when he was getting his diagnosis. It was just regular blood tests.
The blood gas was taken when I was in hospital with my asthma.
I would contact the relevant departments and get them to explain exactly why blood gas is needing done. As far as I'm aware it wouldn't be relevant for an autism diagnosis
