Can I salvage my beautiful black leather bag?

I'm absolutely gutted. My lovely black leather whistles bag is ruined. My sons fruit pouch exploded in my bag and so I put it in the washer 🙈
Now it's come out with white streaks and it's very dull and looks horrible. It's only about 3 months old. I'm gutted.
Can I savage it anyhow?

I would use a cream specifically for bags rather than shoes. Have a look at Saphir products. It is definitely salvageable.

I often put bags in the washing machine - soft leather is usually OK. I'm not sure why you got white streaks. But really with a good quality leather cream it will be fine.

Here. I think Saphir shoe cream is also recommended for bags actually. Amazon have some of their products I think.

Could you take it to an old fashioned cobbler? I know they are few and far between but we are lucky enough to have one in town and he has worked miracles on some of our leather goods.

in the future unstitching the bottom of the fabric lining (if the mango was somehow in-between the lining and the leather would have been worth a try before washing the whole thing.

I'd start with the cheapest option first. Louise at Love Lolo has a wealth of knowledge about what products to use on high end leather bags. You send her images and she will the best products to use. I did look at their website recently and it was closed for a few weeks but might be back open now.

If that doesn't work, try somewhere like the Handbag Restoration Company. They can do wonders with bags in much worst state than yours but it will cost.
