Best haircare product for frequent swimmers

I plan to go swimming three times a week from September and need to find a decent shampoo and conditioner to reduce as much as possible the chlorine damage.
Can any regular swimmers recommend any tried and tested products?
Also, do swimming caps work for this?

The pool insists on swimmers wearing a swim cap, I wear this under the cap and find it really works well. It's supposed to work even without a cap, I've not tried it that way round.

Buy a swimming cap!! I could probably get away without washing mine if i took it all in properly. I do wash it though, I'm not completely scuzzy but it leaves your hair practically dry underneath and maybe just a bit wet round the nape of your neck.
I used to use the L'Oreal kid's swim shampoo then do a second wash with normal shampoo and then conditioner but a cap is much better.

Swimming cap. Also you can buy before swim hair masks and after swim shampoo and conditioner kerastase used to do them. One hairdresser told me that if my hair is wet before I swim it won’t be able to soak up more chlorinated water in the pool? All worth a try

I wear a swimming hat and use this after swimming: www.decathlon.co.uk/p/chlorine-resistant-2-in-1-swimming-shower-gel-head-and-body-250-ml/_/R-p-151971

Sounds like a swimming cap is the way to go.
I have awful memories of those awful rubber ones we used to have to wear as kids though, which has put me off until now.
I think a trip to Decathlon is called for!
Thanks all!

@FinallyHere, I'm not sure if I understood your post correctly. Were you talkung about a product you apply under your swimmibg cap?
Kerastase and Decathlon products noted, too. Thanks!

Rub conditioner into your hair before swimming. It works.

emmathedilemma · 12/08/2021 18:23

All those of you saying to add product before swimming……my pool insists that you shower before swimming because products and sweat etc affect the quality of the water in the pool…..
Just buy a cap,it also reduces the amount of hair in the pool that goes down the filters 🤢

I swim twice a week and I did used to use swimming shampoos and conditioners but now I don’t bother. I now use John Frieda’s moisturising shampoo and conditioner and once a week I use JF’s intensive repair conditioner (it’s in a purple tub). That works fine for me.

Agree with wetting your hair first. The water soaks into your hair and stops a lot of the chemicals soaking in it. It works. I use a clarifying shampoo after. I don’t like conditioners but probably should use one afterwards

We use the fabric swimming caps from decathlon because they are easy to put on and don't pull the hair and then again, from decathlon, the swimming shampoo and shower gel.

We also use the Garnier Food intensive conditioner (comes in a tub) . It can be used as a wash in-out conditioner or a leave in (which is what we do). We get banana which smells divine and is perfect on the girls waist length curly hair..
