Children with short sightedness

Hi
I just wanted to share that my son who is 6 years old went to the opticians to have his eye tested and found to be short sighted. We found that they do special glasses that may help to prevent his short sightedness get worse called myosmart lenses. So hopefully, when he grows older his prescription will stay stable. This is an amazing new technology to come out.Its not cheap, but hopefully, he wont grow up having to wear thick lenses. So please get your child's eyes tested so that you can prevent them getting worse.

I wish you success. I was given bifocal lenses at the age of 10 with the same story that they would "stop my eyes getting worse". They didn't, my sight got progressively worse to age 22, I'm now -8 in both eyes.

I think "get your childrens eyes tested.... so that they can see" is reason enough personally.

I didnt know I couldn't see...

Are you a Myosmart salesperson?

Lenses can be thinned. Lots of children are short-sighted and there's no need to fear 'thick lenses'.

This whole post is weird.

Looks like it doesnt it!

And "fear of thick lenses" would be a rubbish reason not wear glasses!?

I have a v high prescription (how on earth did my parents not notice I couldnt see...) but yes have them thinned, choose the right frames etc.

My son got his eyes tested 2 years ago, no issues Went again for checkup year later they’d deteriorated a lot, then again in 3 months then another 3. He doesn’t wear thick lenses, he really suits his glasses and prefers to wear them over wandering about not being able to see. He too didn’t realise he couldn’t see until he got his glasses.

To be fair if they work then great.

Your post isn't really clear why thick lenses are a pain - less choice of frames and higher cost to have them thinned. Its not just thick lenses - complex prescriptions can be expensive.

Mine are -10 and the only choice are plastic frames plus they have to be small or the edge of the lens becomes too thick to fit the frame, even on the highest grade of thinning.

I think you should get your children's eyes tested regularly. I complained from a young age that I struggled to see clearly but was told by my parents that "our family has strong eyes" and never taken for an eye test.

At 17 I went for an eye test and was prescribed strong lenses for my shortsightedness.

Suddenly books on shelves had titles, buses had numbers and I could recognise friends from a distance. Hmm
