Best holiday you’ve been on with children?

DH has a week off work just before the end of summer break, so we’re going to book a last minute trip. But holidays sometimes feel like hard work with children!

What’s the best holiday you’ve taken with children? (Mine are aged 7 and 5)

@BeeDavis is the Chinese still on that site?
We had such lovely memories of that place

Croatia. We stayed at the arena stoja campsite at Pula in a static tent with its own loo and shower. Perfection. Short taxi hop from the airport, supermarket in walking distance. Delicious takeaway pizza on site, cheap buses into the city if you want to do roman ruins etc but the whole campsite is surrounded by sea, just a few steps from your tent you can leap into crystal clear warm sea and snorkel and be surrounded by shoals of fish. It was so relaxing. Get up, swim, eat and read, bit hot now, swim. Read, eat, ice cream, swim eat more, another ice cream, evening swim.

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal

The Ikos in Greece (it's a chain, can't remember the name of our exact one). All inclusive, really spendy, but soooooo good for a proper relaxing break. They have brilliant kids clubs, loads of entertainment should you want it, but also quiet, adult only areas should you want it whilst they're at kids clubs. Loads of food options to suit everything from the fussiest to most diverse pallet.

We went three years ago when my two were 4 and 6, and they still talk about it and ask when we're going back.

This is good to know as we are booked to go to Aria next year!

Our most successful holidays have been an "extra" half term holiday that was fairly cheap and cheerful. It maybe something to do with lower expectations as it wasn't our main holiday or maybe because a week wasn't long enough to get properly tetchy with each other!

Of those the great successes have been (all all inclusive unless otherwise specified):
Morocco
Zante
Fethiye (Turkey)
Fuerterventura
Corfu ( this was the only one we had an apartment with a shared pool rather than AI)

Fuerteventura was the real surprise hit. Its not particularly beautiful and not much to do. Our accommodation was shabby and the weather was variable. But for some reason it's one of the holidays we talk and laugh about the most. It just really sort of clicked.

A much more planned out and longer holiday was Disney World Florida and that was brilliant. We went "for the kids" but the adults enjoyed it just as much.

A villa with a pool in Majorca. They played endlessly in the pool with inflatables / swam / chilled out which meant Dh and I got to chill as well!

They had their own rooms and could have breakfast lunch etc whenever they wanted which was far better than a hotel.

Loved it!

@jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey I think there was one near the golf course wasn’t there? We last went in 2018 and I know the park has had a bit of a refurb since then! Not sure if the Chinese is still open!

Just asked mine, apparently 2 years ago to an AI in Turkey with loads of slides! Personally at that age I would always prefer abroad with a good pool and good weather for ease of entertaining but appreciate that's not very doable this year.

Northumberland is amazing, I live here, and loads to do...some payable, many free, amazing parks and beaches, beautiful countryside and some fab NT properties

Faves are definitely Greek type beach and pool holidays but if staying uk they like caravans or camping over holiday cottages - novelty factor I think . My kids loved the starland crazy entertainment at park dean holiday parks when they were younger
As long as there's a beach within a 45 minute drive -although I've vowed never to do a beach / tent holiday again as nothing dries !!

The best was where DD (single child) had other children to play with. That was a AI resort abroad with kids club or a farm stay with several cottages and play equipment/play room, guided activities.

We did these between 5-9 and while we had short breaks with lots of sightseeing for a large holiday these were the best.
