Can you feel a lymph node/lump under your chin?

Completely random question I know. I've just felt a lump under my chin, and now lying awake worried I have a tumour or something. I don't usually worry about my health, but somehow at half one in the morning it feels worse. I think it's probably a lymph node, but I don't remember ever feeling it before, but then I don't regularly feel under my chin!

If other people can feel something there than I'll much happier! I've been to the dentist recently, so I'd hope that if there was anything obviously weird he might have noticed. If you imagine the arch of your lower jaw it's pretty much in the middle, maybe slightly closer to the back than the front.

Key words from you ' at half one in the morning it feels worse'

Don't panic could be a number of harmless things. Forget about it for now and call the doctors in the morning. Waiting 6 hours or 7 hours to call the doctors from now will make no difference.

Please don't spend all night worrying

ibelieveinangels · 12/08/2021 01:51

i have one, its been there years and years

RacheyCat · 12/08/2021 01:55

Yes. I first noticed it as a teenager. It's under my jaw on the right side. It gets more swollen when I'm sick.

You're right Lucy, it isn't like I can do anything about it now anyway. I've read a chapter of my book, and distracted myself quite well, so I'll try to go to sleep again.

I'm glad other people can feel one (and are still here years later!). Not that I want to turn this into a covid jab thread, but I had that at the end of last week, so perhaps it's just a bit of immune response related to that — I hadn't thought of that before.

Bodies are peculiar sometimes!

Good thinking distracting yourself and then trying to get some sleep.

Yes, maybe a Covid side effect. Have a chat with the doctors when you wake up Smile

I have gotten a swollen gland/ lymph node from a spot before! A spot is a little infection really so it makes sense

Normaigai · 12/08/2021 03:24

Did you have Pfizer? Swelling of lymph nodes is a rare but recognized side effect.

earlydoors42 · 12/08/2021 07:09

I have a gland that has in the past swollen under my jaw from a) a bee sting on top of my head and b) things to do with my teeth and gums.

bananacrumble · 12/08/2021 07:50

Your nodes swell up when your body is fighting something. Their pretty much a bin for when your poorly/sick to get rid of the bad things out your body
Wouldn't worry !

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/08/2021 10:20

I had the Moderna. It does look like it can cause swollen glands, although they seem to be more common in the armpit. I've had a prod but can't feel anything there. Hopefully it's just choosing to come up in a different place and will go off in a few days. Smile

Hey, you've got lymph nodes under your jaw on both the left and right sides. They can swell up when you're feeling a bit under the weather so perfectly possible they'd be enlarged if you'd just had the jab.

I always get the one on my right swelling up whenever I've got a cold or some other kind of lurgy.
