DH injured on holiday - advice please?!

We are on a canal boat and DH has "had a fall". He's mostly OK, a bit scratched and shaken up but has a knee twice the size of what it should be.

Painkillers and ice have had no effect and he's obviously in pain. In normal times we would take a trip to minor injuries, however we are literally marooned. Our car is at least a whole (full on) days cruising away, but realistically two. DS and I are more than capable of making it back without his assistance.

Should we make a concerted effort back to the car tomorrow? He's adamant he hasn't broken anything with his extensive non-medical knowledge but he is clearly in a lot of pain. He's currently in bed and insisting that he will be up and at it by the morning. As it's just taken is 20 minutes to do a 5 minute walk I am sceptical.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated Smile

Round here people are encouraged to visit a walk in centre where they will be referred to A&E if necessary. This avoids clogging up A&E . Also whole family would not be allowed in here due to Covid restrictions so DH should go alone.

Did your DH get seen?

Good luck! I hope it's nothing serious

I had a very swollen knee and painful after falling off a horse. I waited until the next day to go to A&E and got told off. There was a significant bleed into the joint and a torn meniscus. It was months before it was right again and a couple of weeks before I could drive. Get it seen to ASAP.

Sorry all, I tried to update earlier but had no signal.

DH flatly refused to get medical attention but appears slightly better today. He has taken it easier than normal but I am unhappy he has not had it checked out. However as he is a mostly fully functioning adult I have had to concede defeat.

We are on our way home and currently sat drinking beer on a tow path somewhere between Wales and England. As before, I am grateful for all your advice Flowers

Thanks for the update OP.
As you say, he's an adult and gets to decide for himself in spite of all the combination bed MN wisdom/judge meant 😀. Enjoy the rest of your holiday.
If it isn't improving in a few days it isn't too late to get an X-ray , not optimal but not too late. Have a good time!

Argh! Spellchecker!
Combined wisdom/judgement 😀
