Laundry after a stomach bug

DS had a vomiting bug over the weekend and we have a lot of clothes covered in a lot of sick.

It’s the first time I’ve had to deal with this, no idea if it's noro or something slightly leas virulent (let's face it, there’s plenty going about) so I am here to ask for your pro-tips for cleaning clothes, towels and sheets with vomit on, please?

I don’t want to spread it via the washing machine to other items etc. Is there any way I can avoid this? The clothes obviously won’t take bleach or super high temps so I’m a bit 🤷‍♀️ as to what to do!

all the people who want to come along and kick me for not coping with my worst fear in the perfect mumsnet way are welcome to do it

Were people doing that?

I get your dread / phobia, I have it to an extent at an anticipatory level! When the kids say they feel sick, I begin to feel sick myself & dread the actual vomiting.

Once it has happened, I can manage the clean up as long as it's quickly done.

If I had to open a bag of vomit-y clothes ... nah! I really really couldn't!

Hope you get sorted, I don't really think people were trying to get at you here, to be fair.

Yea I think people, myself included, were just trying to point out that you'd not made the best decision. mostly written when we didn't have all the info ie not actually the weekend and emetophobia. No need to be so defensive.

I would soak it all to get rid of the vomit and then wash the lot in as high a temperature as you can. Then rinse the machine.

When my son was really ill I actually hosed off bed linen in the garden (and made sure no one went near the area for a few days). It actually took a couple of washes to get the smell out

Honestly if it's been sat in a bin bag for 48 hours covered in sick, it needs throwing away.

The idea of smelling that is making me nauseous 🤢🤢
