The likes of Cinch, Cazoo, Motorpoint? Any feedback, thoughts most welcome. My mother's car is defunct and she isn't someone I can take round showrooms. She wants to replace with the same make and model as she's used to it. I was thinking that having a delivery to the door might be good.

I would also be interested to know as I was looking at Cazoo only this morning.

Are you thinking of buying online and getting it delivered? Personally I would want to test drive and see the condition of something i was spending that much money on. I think quite a lot of the cars at places like Motorpoint are ex-hire or lease vehicles so possibly not been taken the best of care of.

After several recommendations, I bought my car from motorpoint, it was 6 month old ex-hire car at a great price. I was very impressed with them and my car has been problem free

Dp bought his car on cazoo. He said he'd never go to a showroom again! You get an questions asked period to return it if your not happy - so kinda like a test drive. Delivery man was lovely and stayed ages showing dp everything!

Car was in excellent shape (got checked over by mechanic friend).

Price is fixed so no room for negotiation, but was good anyway!

I personally hate car sales people so id use cazoo again!

Silly phone.

*A no questions asked

@emmathedilemma Yes, that is what I was thinking but she does barely any miles so something reliable (clutch needs to be ok) and in good nick inside is main priority. It's a shopping basket on wheels to essentially get her down the road, round the corner and to tiny local sainsbos. Ideally, I'd like her not to drive but it is her last bit of independence and she has had to give up so much else - old age is a bugger. She's said she'd have an ex demonstrator but it is daft her paying out a nearly new price for such low mileage plus the road tax is higher on more recent models.

Some larger dealers are now set up to work in a similar way, as they've had to during the pandemic with not being able to open or do test drives.

If you look at the website for the brand she wants or phone the local branch and tell them you want car X, they might be able to deliver one to her.

I looked at Cazoo or similar a few months ago and they did seem a little more expensive than the local Skoda dealer for a car I was possibly considering. I didn't go either way in the end, I decided to go bangernomics for a while.

Daughter bought a car from Cazoo and returned it after 10 days. It looked fine when delivered, but after 8 days it rained, and loads of scratches appeared on it. They had covered the scratches with something which then washed off!

She then went to a main dealer and bought a car virtually the same and for the same price.

If you know what you want then go to a main dealer and maybe buy a one year old car, which still has warranty etc.

Whatever you do, do not touch Cinch!

I had a terrible time and I never even saw the car! Multiple excuses, different excuse often the same day. It subcontracts its customer service so no one knows what is going on. I chased for a week and then got a refund. I'm not convinced the car ever existed.

Get her an automatic. And look for an ex mobility. Search online, eg auto trader, she's told you the model she wants. Most chains will have a car delivered to the area if you see what you want in a branch a few hundred miles away. No obligation to buy. Test drive it for her. And buy it. It'll have a warranty on it. Should be cheaper than Cazoo etc.

Anordinarymum · 11/08/2021 16:58

The car I saw on Cazoo this morning seemed pricey but it had low mileage. There was only one so no chance to compare it.
It's like gambling buying cars these days. Everyone's a song and dance man as my dad used to say

LostArcher · 11/08/2021 18:39

Thanks to all. We may have a possible at a dealer half an hour away from her and I am hoping I can take her over there tomorrow to view it and I could run it too. Fingers crossed.

I nearly bought a car from Cinch in the lockdown. In the end I bought from a main dealer who delivered. It was 1k cheaper. I didn't need to test drive as it was fairly new and there was a return in 14 days policy. I would price up cinch etc and see what your dealership will quote. They won't pass up a sale just for having to deliver.

TeamRick · 11/08/2021 19:17

I recently bought mine on line but just from a regular dealer who offered delivery!

I knew what I wanted and had been looking for ages so had an idea of the price I was expecting to pay!

Just messaged them through the Motors.com website, they sent me a really detailed video, I paid a deposit. They made an offer on my car so the guy had something to drive back!

When it arrived I checked it over and transferred the balance, couldn't have easier!

Really pleased with the car & the service!

Anordinarymum · 11/08/2021 21:09

Cazoo don't deliver free. I was sure they say they do on the advert. I might be wrong on this. They charge £50 for delivery or you can collect from their local centre, so their unique selling point ain't so unique after all

Good for you Wink

We bought with Cinch - super easy and very pleased. There was a minor scratch which they sent someone out to repair. This took about 2 months until we could be booked in but all went fine. So far, so good! Very easy too - a lot of dealers were rushed off their feet post pandemic and didn't have any test drives available.

Olny · 11/08/2021 21:24

I bought from Cazoo. Delivery was free then (March) I didn't know that had changed.

I was very pleased with the delivery and I'm very happy with the car. I've had no problems at all and will buy my next car from Cazoo.

LostArcher · 12/08/2021 17:32

Thanks to all. Went to a dealer today. Had a car just in and so test drove it and she's bought it. Dealer going to deliver next Friday. Hurray! Now to sort out bank transfers for someone who doesn't have internet banking.
