Clarks shoes - DD feet not grown in length but gone up 2 width sizes?!?!

Daughter is almost 6. Bought size 10 and a half clarks last year in an E fitting from clarks. Shoes lasted the whole year.

Had a John Lewis gift voucher to use so took DD to get feet measured on sat at JL's where they sell clarks. Lady said her feet are a 10 and a half G. Didn't think much of it till I was sorting through stuff for charity yesterday and found the old shoes in an E.

Is this common and has anyone else had this happen? They looked like they fit in the shop but now second guessing how she can go up two width sizes in a year, she hasn't really grown much in 12 months. Wondering if I should take her to a clarks shop for a fitting to make sure?

Clarks sizes are different to standard shoe sizes. Ignore the numbers

My dds both have had similar shortly before their feet have grown. Not so bad for dd1, but dd2 was already a G fitting so it was really hard to get anything that would even remotely fit.

Have you tried measuring yourself? I've only ever done it myself. I buy from here as they list everything in cm:

Puberty? DN went up 2 width fittings before she started her period. Strangely by the time she was 16 her feet went back to normal.

Shes 6, so puberty unlikely.

Haven't measured myself

My children were usually an E fitting. On the odd (two?) occasions they have been a G it was the start of a growth spurt where their feet had already got wider, but hadn't yet got longer.

DD1 had outgrown her school shoes by October half term a few years ago. But annoyingly just outside the 12 week guarantee Clarks (used to?) offer.

This website is good. I have their measuring device which is handy.

I have found huge variation in my kids shoe sizes depending on who measures them. I don't think everyone who does it is accurate.

Do your DD's feet look any wider? My eldest has very narrow feet. Always a E fitting. When he was about 9 I took him to have his feet measured for school shoes and they were suddenly a G. But they weren't. I asked the assistant if she wouldn't mind measuring them again and she went and got someone else to double check. They were an E. So it can just be human error/inexperience. I knew his feet were still narrow just to look at them. He takes after DP who has terrible trouble getting shoes to fit. Thankfully DS2 has average feet (like me😆).

I just work off the assumption now that my children's feet are unlikely to change width and order online mostly these days. I bought one of those foot gauges which is really handy and saves me having to draw round their feet!

I have also found the width can increase before the length. Keep an eye on her feet as they may grow soon.

Update:

Got them remeasured at clarks store and they said she should be a 11f rather than a 10.5g so we went back to JL's to exchange
