What coffee maker do I need?

At home, I have a wonderful Krups nespresso machine. I love the lungo coffee as it is really strong and I like it black. It is perfect.

But at work, I can't get the right coffee. I have a cafetiere at present which is OK, I add twice the normal amount of coffee and leave it for about 5 mins to stew. That tastes right, but cleaning it up is a right pain at work - the grains get everywhere and we shouldn't wash them down the sink. I have been looking at alternatives but can't seem to get the right thing.

I have tried a cup-top filter, which is so weak it doesn't even taste of coffee. I have filled in 2 of the 3 holes with glue to try and slow it down but it still doesn't taste right.

Another nespresso machine for work isn't an option sadly. But there must be something else that does decent strong black coffee. I have been looking at an aero press but I'm not sure whether it would taste strong enough as I can't tell how much coffee you can put in - I do like it really really strong! The video I found on aero press seemed to say you can add water to the cup for an americano but that is no way strong enough for my taste.

Has anyone got any suggestions please? Has anyone who loves really strong coffee tried an aeropress?

I hope that's food safe glue!

I don't know about an aeropress but Oomph is a similar sort of thing and you can vary the amount of coffee and water you use plus repeatedly put the water through the grounds of its not strong enough. If you use the maximum amount of coffee then the grounds form a fairly solid puck which makes it easier to clean.

Aerpress is good. It comes with a measuring spoon so if 1 is too weak for you, you could add 2. Or use 1 and half the water.

And it's really easy to clean.

I love my Bialetti. I have a triple Shock shot in the morning and that’s me set up for the day!

Aeropress. It's wonderful, transportable, really easy to clean and makes delicious full flavoured coffee.

With my aeropress I don't add water for an Americano. I simply use the amount of coffee I need, fill the tube with a higher level of water than it says for one cup, and press the whole lot through.

I use the inverted method for the strongest coffee. Nothing drips through until I press, so it's like an Americano crossed with an espresso.

I love strong coffee and aeropress has been a game changer.

Swissgold one cup filter, has a dripper insert with lots of small holes plus really fine mesh. You can slow the drip rate by tamping the coffee and/or using a finer grind. Really easy to clean and you don't need filter papers.

What about something like this:

WACACO Minipresso NS, Portable Espresso Machine, Compatible with NS Capsules (Nespresso Original Capsules and compatibles), Small Travel Coffee Maker, Manually Operated Coffee Machine for Camping www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01M4J94WY/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_7AQ5XZ1BK11W6AXQM3Z4?psc=1&_encoding=UTF8&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Oooh lots to look at already - thanks! I will have a look through. Gorilla glue, not sure it's food safe.....

No hob sadly, just hot water and a microwave. Not able to plug anything in either as nowhere to put it and would need regular PAT testing etc so too much hassle.

You put in as much as you like! The YouTube videos etc are all by coffe geeks who tell you how much to put in down to the last gram (and turn the whole process into performance palava!). But the reason I love the aeropress is that it's so basic you can do what the hell you like with it. As much or as little coffee in as you like, as much or as little water in as you like, press as hard or gently as you like, to get the strength you fancy depending on your mood or the blend of coffee you're using that day.

It's basically a tube, a plunger and a paper filter. There are no rules! Unlike pod coffee which dictates the strength of your drink, which I find way too restrictive.

Not sure which cup top you used but I use a Hario V60 with paper filters, strength determined by the amount of coffee but seems plenty strong enough for me (and I'm used to a prosumer grade espresso machine at home)
