Has anyone regretted bi-fold doors?

Just that really. We are looking into doing some building work and I think I'd love bi-folding doors. We would be sacrificing a wall that currently has worktop space along it but trying to remodel downstairs.

I wish we had gone for an odd number not an even number. That way you get a ‘door’ at one end.

Top tip!

Other than that I love them. The room is so airy and it’s great in summer.

Live my bi fold doors. I have them open every time the sun has been warm enough

TheChosenTwo · 09/08/2021 20:13

No regrets. Ours are always slid open!
And we went for 3 wider doors rather than 5 narrower ones so we didn’t lose space at both ends.
I’d have them again wherever I moved to.

I love ours too - had them for 7 years now.

Walkingthedog46 · 09/08/2021 20:15

I hate mine! The single opening door at one end means the curtains on that side billow out every time there is even a slight breeze. Also, an expense I didn’t factor in is the need for a bifold outside canopy as my south-facing windows get the full sun all afternoon. The cost is eye watering!!!!

We don’t regret them as we didn’t install them, but we rarely open them fully - we do use the end third/door a lot though. The light is lovely, but big windows or french doors would have achieved the same thing. I wish they’d been flush to the level of outdoors - there’s a big step up and over the frame which isn’t great for tripping over or for little kids.

RoseWineTime · 09/08/2021 20:19

Ours have integral blinds so no billowing curtains!

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 09/08/2021 20:22

I bought a house with bifold.doors and love them. We have an odd number use the 'single door' a lot. Its lovely when the weathers good and we can open them up fully. I think it transforms the room.

custardbear · 09/08/2021 20:24

Nope - love mine 🥰

custardbear · 09/08/2021 20:26

Can't bloody post it 🙄🤯

DoubleChinWoes · 09/08/2021 20:28

I regret not getting the integral blinds

SprayedWithDettol · 09/08/2021 20:28

I must admit I prefer this look.

I wasn’t sure about having ours but actually I love them.
We have a panel that is a separate door that we use through the winter months but we’ve had a lot of use and enjoyment from them.

17CherryTreeLane · 09/08/2021 20:32

I love ours! I would say they're not all equal though, make sure you don't scrimp. We've had schuco doors for a few years now, and they still glide like new.

custardbear · 09/08/2021 20:32

Here you go - floating corner ones

Love ours too.No regrets. We have a Roman blind clearing the top so no curtain in the way either.

VictoriousPlum · 09/08/2021 20:40

We have just ordered windows and went for sliding patio doors, after much discussion. I would agree to get an odd number so you have a back door in colder weather.

custardbear · 09/08/2021 20:52

We have perfect for blinds which are great

PolaDeVeboise · 09/08/2021 20:53

We're contemplating at the moment. Not sure what you mean about the difference between odd and even numbers - surely there's an 'end door' regardless?

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 09/08/2021 21:16

From person experience bifold floor to ceiling window (odd number of panels for a single door opening) doors with integral blinds and an external canopy is essentially the equivalent of a sports car with a soft top convertible roof. It's an architectural marvel and adds light, ventilation, space, style and above all all seasons flexibility! They work particularly well in a penthouse setting opening up onto a veranda.

breadfortea · 09/08/2021 21:41

Our house is south facing, in the summer they have to be open or the kitchen is too hot. If you have children and dogs there are constant smears unless you are very good at cleaning windows. I wouldn't have them again.

Charleymouse · 09/08/2021 21:42

I don't want them don't like them but DH really did so went with it.
Was told you pay per door so had four wide doors 3 go one way, one is a door in its own right. Check how they park when open.
Now we have them I love them. The amount of light they let in is phenomenal.

Mayhemmumma · 09/08/2021 21:44

I found ours a bit annoying to open and didn't make full use of them opening them out all the time - ended up mostly using the single end door.

New house we have put in classic french doors which I prefer.

Lemonlady22 · 09/08/2021 21:46

I wouldn't have them if the neighbours are close. My ndn have theirs open all the time and if I'm sitting on my patio they act like a megaphone to the neighbourhood...or it could be they are just noisy gits

StillMedusa · 09/08/2021 21:56

I love ours. Ours have a single opening door.. or two..or 5.. and though it does get hot in summer (south facing) it opens up the whole living room int the garden and makes the whole house lighter.
