Dinner to warm up in one pot

Friend is doing work to their house and has only a fridge and a hot plate for now so they've been eating a lot of pasta, soup, type of thing.

What can I cook at my house and take round so that they (one adult, one DC 9) can warm through on the hob for a slightly more exciting dinner? Nothing spicy or overly cheesy.

A nice stew?

coffeewithmilk · 09/08/2021 18:38

You could make fillings for tacos/tortillas; chicken or beef or mince with peppers onions and some mild seasoning. All they'd need to add is cheese and tacos and some lettuce.

Otherwise a mild curry or chilli
Stew or a sausage hotpot
Chicken soup with lots of veg and noodles

My go-to is sausage and bean stew

Onions
Tons of paprika (not spicy)
Tins of mixed beans
Sausages (polish ones are best as they have a higher meat content)
Thyme
Dash of lemon juice
Water or chicken stock just to cover
Cook for 4 hours-ish
Done!

Just warm up and serve

Nigella’s chicken in a pot with lemon and orzo would be perfect. If you prepared it up to step 7 and told them how to finish it off, that’d work a treat. Step 8 is just fine on a hob on low.

It’s so tasty. The recipe does make a lot mind.

They don't have a microwave.

Should also have made it clear, they're sick of pasta.

The sausage and bean stew sounds great, as do the fajitas (although personally I like to warm the tortillas).

Thanks, everyone.

Oh. One child and one adult. The nigella recipe would feed them for days. Way too much. Sorry. I’d say it would certainly feed six adults. Utterly delicious though. I make it up to step 7, then strip the chicken and freeze half of everything to finish off another time.

If it was me I'd offer to order them a pizza one night as a treat.

Paella? Curry & naan, ratatouille, caponata.

These two have always been a good standby for me when I don’t want to faff with side dishes

You could make them some burgers www.dairydiary.co.uk/recipe-view/pork-apple-burgers/ which just need frying.

Sausage and potato cassoulet www.lovepotatoes.co.uk/recipes/sausage-and-potato-cassoulet/

MyAnacondaMight · 09/08/2021 20:29

Maybe some sort of Spanish style tomato based stew?

www.seasonalspuds.com/recipes/potato-prawn-and-chorizo-majorcan-style-stew Something like this. You could switch prawns for chicken if preferable, and/or omit the potatoes and serve with crusty bread.

Shakshuka can be made mild, then just heated up, eggs cracked in and served with bread. www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/shakshuka

Massaman curry can also be mild, and is a decent one pot meal. www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/beef-massaman-curry
