Children up late on holiday

Another holiday question from me today - I'm a bit excited! Travelling to Spain with 14 month old for our first holiday next week.

I'm planning on sticking to our usual nap and bedtimes but would you ever push these on holiday? In Spain a lot of babies and young children eat out with their parents in the evenings. How to they manage it without the DC bring really tired?

We are staying near a beautiful old town where we could have meals out. Would you ever keep your 1 year old up later than usual for a special meal or not?

We had DS out with us until midnight or 1 a.m. when we went to Spain when he was 13 months and again at nearly 3. There was one lovely night I remember when the pirate ship park was still full of young kids at midnight. 😍

We were very lucky though as he slept 12 hours from whenever he went to bed, so we all slept in until miday the following day. Most kids won't let you do that, sadly.

Personally we ate our main meal at lunch time, then bought snacks to eat for evening in hotel room with wee ones. Less stressful and they can sleep at roughly their usual time. We just chilled out and drank wine once they were asleep. DC just woke up at usual times, didn't matter if they went to bed later than normal. Was easier all round to follow their cues.
