Hi! I’m really interested to know what it’s like working in a pharmacy. What you see, anything to be wary of any procedures people might not know exist unless you’ve worked in one before?

Really random but It’s something I’d like to get into so would appreciate any experiences you may of had!

Lots of dealing with the public. Phone ringing a lot. On your feet most of the day.

Confidentiality is key. Some procedures can often be dictated to by the GP surgeries you work alongside with so often will differ from pharmacy to pharmacy.

Can be very rewarding but also can be demoralising at times as you can spend all day going out of the way to help a paitent and still get complained at.

Kinda depends what your roll is within the Pharmacy, the type of pharmacy, and the services offered by the pharmacy.

Assuming you are asking about Community Pharmacy. I think generally you get counter staff who deal with counter enquiries and selling items (you need training to sell OTC medicines), then dispensing staff who print labels, pick the medication etc, may also make up like dosette boxes. Some pharmacies have pharmacy technicians who maybe accuracy checkers - they check the dispensed medications. If there is no accuracy checking technician then the Pharmacist does this. That’s the very basics.
