If your toddler dd's sleep in nightdresses how do you keep their legs warm during winter

My dd(3) always sleeps in pyjamas except during summer when she wears nightdresses . I am thinking of putting her in nightdresses every night or most nights , even during winter ,but worry if her little legs would get cold in the night. She uses the duvet but most of the time she winds up kicking it off. Would socks be enough? Would she feel cold if her nightdress goes up when she is asleep? She and I bedshare if it is of any relevance . Any advise would be greatly appreciated x

Surely pj bottoms are loose and cotton? I have boys and their wear pjs either long legged or shorts never mentioned being cold. I’m sure she’ll be absolutely fine, if she’s that cold she’ll wake up

Starjammer · 09/08/2021 07:45

DD will be 3 in Feb and still wears a sleeping bag with legs, basically a walking duvet. Slumbersac do them. She's a very active sleeper who often ends up tangled in covers, so sleeping suit thing works a lot better when it's cold.

Will she necessarily still be co-sleeping with you in the winter? She may want to make the transition to her own bed by then

All kids are different. Mine used to wear PJs, no socks and usually her feet sticking out from the duvet because they got too hot!

Suzi888 · 09/08/2021 08:23

Mine loves nightdresses too, I just keep PJ bottoms and she will get those out if she’s chilly. She will occasionally wear PJ’s, so the top isn’t a complete waste.

I always wore nighties as a child. I don't remember ever having cold legs. My mum would put a hot water bottle in my bed sometimes.

Thank you all for replying. I think I am going to get a few of each and see how dd gets on. @notacooldad my response to your pp is no ruder than yours was to mine. My title gives an indication of what I am after. So if the variables are such that you can't answer, then don't, I promise you I won't be offended. There were plenty of posters who were able to answer my question without the need to call it a "weird " or "odd " post and be quite helpful and nice about it. I don't think mentioning uti is a drip feed either. I didn't really want to mention uti's because I thought it is not relevant, and also didn't want to be accused of being a "wee" troll given the time. I only mentioned it in response to a specific question by a poster. As my question was not whether she should wear a nightdress due to uti, it really is not relevant. As my title indicates, I just wanted to know what other parents do when their children get cold in the night if they wear nightdressesand I've got some really helpful responses as usual for which I am very grateful, but thank you for your time.

@cookiecreampie

You're way over thinking this OP.
Yeah. This.
mogtheexcellent · 09/08/2021 10:32

By age 3 most kids are able to pull up blankets and duvets if cold. DD is a firm nightie wearer and has been since she was night trained at age 3.5 as she hates the rough insides on pjs and pjs and pants are too hot. I'm the same.

Asda, john lewis and M&S are good for long sleeve nighties. Short sleeve are easier to find in supermarkets. I buy large and she wear for 2 years.

mogtheexcellent · 09/08/2021 10:33

forgot to add in winter I put a fleece over the duvet to keep legs warm. But our house is unheated and very cold.

I didn't use the word weird. Somebody else did. Yet you didn't challenge them. Other people have mentioned the same variables that I pointed out yet again you only singled me out. Why s that?
I was trying to be helpful with the things that needed considering about staying warm.
I said that your dd let you know if she was cold.would and others said the same. It was meant to be constructive but you found offence.

cansu · 09/08/2021 12:08

Unless you have no heating it is a bit of a non problem! If she is cold she will put her duvet on. End of problem.

Long johns

TheSandgroper · 11/08/2021 04:05

Dd would sleep naked no matter how warmly I dressed her. And then kick the covers off.

A double quilt was a blessing. There was just too much for her to kick it all off.

Aquamarine1029 · 11/08/2021 04:12

@WaltzingTilda

Thanks for replying. *@notacooldad* well if you have nothing worthy to contribute then move along
Nothing worthy to contribute? Aside from the fact that they are right? If your child is cold they will tell you or use their duvet.
LordOfTheThings · 11/08/2021 05:17

Well this is a strange one ...

ActonSquirrel · 11/08/2021 06:21

I can never wear pajamas as even in winter it is too hot and uncomfortable to have my legs covered and I can't sleep like that

But we don't know you're daughter. If she us in your bed at night as you say bed sharing, stick to the nighties as it is just horribly hot in pajamas and sharing a bed

Or you know the logical thing is to try it and see
