Does putting microwaves in front of south facing windows damage them?

I’ve just killed my 4th one this year after having one for years and the only thing that’s changed is that I moved it to the utility in front of a glass door.

Surely not?

Can’t think what else it could be. The Bosch one died on me after moving it in there so I bought a Russell Hobbs, then two Tesco’s. All dead.

I’d be more likely to think there’s something wrong with the plug socket tbh.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/08/2021 07:15

Well I wondered if it was that so I moved it from one double socket the little freezer also runs off and put it on the other socket with the coffee grinder.

Last night I went to heat a plate up and as I turned it on I heard a soft “pop” and it sounded like it was running & lit up but the plate didn’t get hot.

I only use it for porridge, warming drinks, defrosting and heating plates up.

It’s the heating the plate up. You’re supposed to have something in a microwave for the molecules to agitate. They aren’t supposed to be run empty.

Apparently microwaves do not last very long now. I have a Panasonic one that is still going strong after 25+ years. Did look at replacing it a couple of years ago as redoing the kitchen but was told by a salesperson to hold on to it as the new ones don’t last very long at all🤔. It has been in a south facing utility room for the last 3 years.

Oh balls, I knew it’d be my fault somehow.

You can heat up a wet plate tho - put some water on it, heat, drain and dry.

Oldraver · 09/08/2021 08:29

Oh bum I was going to o ask how you heat plates up in the microwave (wasn't sure if there was some fancy technique)

Will stick to running under a tap

AnyFucker · 09/08/2021 08:33

You put empty plates in the microwave ?

No wonder you are frying one after the other. Try reading the instructions Confused
